Are YOU cultured? Or just think you are? :D

Anyways guys, I'm sending out a call to all people to take a look at this. Culture is in the game but so far very few of us have seen its intended use. Here is what it does as stated in IRC by our friend Yarlen.

It increases income and when culture is great enough in a system, it takes away the fog of war there.

Keep your eye out for this guys and try to test it as best you can, if it isn't working we need to tell them. So hop to my friends!

There will be many more culture benefits I'm sure. Maybe even if enemy system is overun by your culture if you invade and kill all defending ships and system defense buildings, the system shoudl defect to you. As far as culture as income multiplier, that one can be a bit tricky

Didnt know culture impacted economy, will def be testing that aspect of it. The FOW is nice too, thats one thing that always bugs me in GC2 is my borders always expand to the point I ahve no clue what the interior of my own borders look like. Least not till I build my Surevillance AWACs later in the game to bring it all under my eye.

Well these are the benefits NOW, we want to make sure they work so we can get the other goodies later.

Thanks LodossKnight for that clarification.

Did any of the devs clarify if the colored lines of the space-lanes translate to the 'cultural' spread from one planetoid to the next? And if the line touches an opposing gravity well, it will remove the fog-of-war?

Income as in taxable planetary income, trading income or blackmarket trades?

To answer that,

According to momo from IRC culture is shown through the colored lines, so yes to the first question. Still tryin to get a response for the second.

When you say colored lines you mean the phase space lines? I noticed they do change color once culture posts are built... I wondered what the heck was going on.

I wish the lines looked better , perhaps more animated, like in GalCiv2 ?

I'm still not getting it. Let me see if this is right:

- If the culture of all planets around one sun reaches a certain point (asuming, X more then opponent) then ALL FOW is removed around all planets of system

- Culture increases tax income from the planet where it is generated

Leaves me with the following questions:

- seeing how Culture is represented as a rating when selecting a planet (bottom left, the red thing) It seems as though it is some kind of cumulative, is this correct?

- what is this thing about system converting to your empire?

AFAIK culture does indeed increase a planets income. This explains why the AI will spam broadcast centers on each of its colony's. I haven't seen any fog of war removed yet, but then again i usually don't build any more than 3 BC's in a system while the AI spams its systems with about 15-30 BC's a planet. In a way i hope that with enough culture you can make colony's revolt, and turn to your side without blowing everything in the system up.

If you pump a lot research into the culture towers, I think thats when you start to see the FOW lifted. But as of now I at least don't do that, tend to build military fleets then conquer through peaceful means. Though the bounty system is a cool touch.

Hehe Bounties, the easy way to make AI's fight themselves! MWUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH!

By the way guys, thank you for looking into it as requested, I'm sure the ironclad guys are happy to know their culture works as intended.

I didn't know it increased income at all. I did see culture hits on planets when I didn't have any broadcast towers up.

Any AI that I've played so far 5 BT is as much I've seen in one planets gravity well.

Hey, my culture was at an enemy system and beyond and it didn't lift the FOW...

I'll try to get a screeny soon.

lol, bounty isn't for making the AI fight amoung themselves, it's for multiplayer so that you can show your friends just how much you care about them. Will be trying culture too, sounds like a nice touch.

ffbotha...if an AI's bounty is high enough...their nice neighbors start attacking. It's part of their programmed relationship response that we call diplomacy.

But yea...Culture DOES work, it DID lift fog of war, I land locked an AI into 2 systems and kept it there, and broadcast centered the hell outta the systems nearby. Took maybe 25 total but I did get the FOW to lift

(I'm assuming its your culture vs theirs, they might have enought o have kept you from overpowering theirs)
