You do know that the four cards in the lower left separate incoming alerts into four separate "ques", and that you can click on the cards to go through each que? (Left click to advance, right click to regress).
Yea I know they are there and what they do. My point in #2 was that besides having those cards it would be nice to have an on screen display highlighting the location of what's going on cause maybe i don't wanna zoom to the event cause i'm focused on something else right now I just wanna zoom out and see what area it's in. Plus when you zoom to a location, especially on large maps with multiple stars it's easy to loss your bearings and your going okie what star system did it just zoom me to and now I gotta move back where i was cause I wanted to see who was attacking and it turned out to be stupid pirates with a small fleet hitting a well defended planet.
And the point in #3 isn't that the cards themselves are useless simply that they take up to much space on the GUI. You could just as easily have buttons the same size as say the Menu and Zoom buttons along the top that do the same thing taking up a lot less space. This would free up that space for something else. Like more info on selected units, a mini-map or who knows what the devs might add. I'm just trying to think of ways to optimize the interface. I seen a lot of RTS have big pretty buttons that are total unnecessary when something smaller and simpler would do the trick and it makes the GUI seem clunky and cumbersome.
Yes, the AI needs work -- devs know this and are working on it. As far as knowing the sent a treaty offer, they give you a message when they do so. Unless your in an alliance, the only other time they message you is with "I hope you didn't do that!" type of warnings when they receive a bounty from someone.
Yep the AI has it's problems and I have heard to voice alert offer msg. But a lot of times I'm listening to music while I play so I don't hear what game says and often don't pay much attention cause I get all those comm chat messages, "Ship preparing for jump.", "Ship jumping.", and Etc. And even when the AI gets fixed and doesn't send as many random pointless taunts it will still undoubtly send taunts from time to time. But even so when playing in most RTS games SP I tend to ignore the msgs the AI types because they are almost always dumb and pointless scripted comments. My main interest is did they offer a treaty along with that msg they sent. Or if I'm in the middle of a heated battle I don't have time to pay attention to what the AI is tring to say. So I figure a quick easy way to get players attention is to make the diplomacy button flash or something. That way you know the AI is requesting a treaty at a quick glance without having to open the diplomacy menu.
