Supreme Commander for the 360

Supreme Commander for the 360

For those who can't bring a PC back from the Future.

If you were itching to play Supreme Commander only to find out that you needed the power of the Monolith to play it, look no further.

This Gamespot page tells you everything about it.

With the sheer power of the PS3, a version for this console can't be far off.

I have Supreme Commander for the PC and, though it plays reasonably well, I can't guarantee that will continue, since the game seems to be doing actual damage to my processor (I don't have the best cooling system).

I'm a proponent of PC gaming, I think its the best platform for gaming (and I learned to touch type playing video games) but consoles have one thing over the PC, optimisation. Once a console comes out you can guarantee to be able to play everything on that console for the next five or so years. With a PC it's obsolete out of the box, and games will be coming out that alienate low end users so this console version of one of the most demanding raw chunks of pure game...is certainly worth a look.

If you use an optical mouse, ditch the mousepad. If you don't use an optical mouse, get one.

I do use an optical mouse, and I don't have a mousepad, I just used mousepad to refer to the area where the mouse is. Force of habit... :NOTSURE:

If you mean the Analog sticks then I prefer them over the mouse since, say, if I want to turn 360 degrees. I may (depending on control sensitivity) need to move my mouse along the desk and halfway across the room OR go halfway (180 degrees) then lift up the mouse and move it to its original position and move it the rest of the way (then move it back again).

Or, you know, you could set the sensitivity up a bit higher. If I move my mouse one standard mousepad size to the right, I've spun about three circles in COD4.

The only reason an analog stick is slightly usefull in shooters is because:

A - The shooters in question are slow, and untwitchy like Halo and Gears of War (compare to Quake, UT, TF, CS) On the PC, it feels like I can crawl in reverse faster then Master Chief can run.

B - The massive autoaim compensates for the complete lack of accuracy of the stick.

C - Everyone else uses the same slow stick.

Take a look at shadowrun, and how much they had to adjust in order for console players to stand up to PC players. They autoaim for console is about a tenth of the screen, for PC there is none and all guns are pinpoint accurate. All character are unable to run, and thus easy to track with the slow stick. The mouse sensitivity in-game (atleast in after 2nd patch) was very low, so unless you could change your sensitivity otherwise, you're screwed. The mouse also felt strange and slow, like moving through molasses. It glides across the screen, instead of pinpoint accuracy.

All in all, I'd say that the mouse is by far superior for shooters.

EDIT: What I was describing with mouse movement is called "acceleration" by the devs, meaning that moving your mouse twice as fast will move your reticle less twice as fast at first, and faster later.

*shudders*

I HATE mouse "acceleration" Give me 1:1 movement on the scale I dictate or give me DEATH!

After plays C&C for the 360, I will not play another Traditional RTS on any console without Keyboard and mouse support.

I don't know any RTS yet that pulled of the balance SupCom managed.

I don't know, 10 years later and still kicking in tournaments around the world...Starcraft has Balance with a capital "B".

One little comment though, as far as i know an Xbox 360 will accept a USB mouse and keyboard without issues, sure its cheating, but you forget that the software on an Xbox is nothing more than a stripped out version of windows. :D

It won't. MS has been very clear that they will not allow Mouse and Keyboard usage on the 360. They don't want the implications that come with it, including users starting to want e-mail access, proper web browsing... it could go on.

And the 360 doesn't run on a stripped out version of Windows as such. The most you can say about it is that it makes use of DirectX (fun fact: The name "Xbox" was derived from the fact that during early developement it was referred to as the "Direct X Box"). It isn't that simple to get software designed for a PC working on a 360 (doesn't even use the same processor, the 360 makes use of a PowerPC processor).

As for Supreme Commander, I love it on PC. I'm sure it'll be playable on a joypad, they're working hard to that end, but I'm doubtful it will be anywhere near as intuitive.
