Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas

OMG!!!

I just saw this "discussion" about sex in video games and these loons actually called Mass Effect a porno hybrid because it has the side view of the back end of an alien in it as well as the side view of of a chest.

They are also claiming that the a new study from UM clearly shows teen boys cant tell the difference from reality and games unless they have an experience.

Why cant anyone with some real knowledge of gaming ever get some time on TV prime time to set these morons straight. There is more sex on TV, books & mags, movies and billboards then there has ever been in games. Yet to hear these loons games are the thing corrupting impressionable minds.

Additionally if anyone is interested in the background of this travesty it was all started by some Christian fundamentalist with an apparently very popular blog. Gamepolitics as the story here. The follow up after a massive revolt by gamers is here.

This nitwit said ME offers customizable sodomy to teen boys and some other highly disturbed comments. His angle is games = the devils work in 3D or some such bullshit like that.

The VP of EA reviewed the lady's book. Here is the Link. People should leave a comment in his thread.

It appears EA is going to war over this travesty. It has published an article on NextGen. This is the link.

UPDATE: Fox News responds to EA and basically blows EA off is a very unprofessional manner.

OK guys. Gamers on different sites are starting to respond to Cooper Lawrence's panning of the ME on the Fox news show. EA and MS have already responded and other media outlets are starting to pick up the story.

It is patently obvious the entire thing as done as a publicity stunt for her book. Fox really screwed up big-time pushing the fundamentalist agenda yet again.

Anyway many of us gamers are now reviewing her book the way she reviewed the game. Please feel free to join us. The link for you reviews is here

If you are a member of a different Amazon domain or other site that sales the book please share the love. Gamers have to start to stand up for themselves all this bullshit in the media these days is to much.

Just watched it, horrifying stuff. "Oh, it looks just like a feature film, clearly it is infinitely more dangerous to children based on this poll of my brain cells that just went out and contains all the information we need." That should really get a mature audiences only rating, because of its potential effects on the delicate psyches of teenaged boys. Also, the shallow portrayal of staunch conservatives was incredibly degrading. I can't see how they allow such demeaning material on the air. And they make you look in the corner of the screen for a rating that doesn't convey the stupidity contained within. The ratings of such programs should be made more accurate to prevent the accidental exposure of children to mature material in order to prevent their transformation into rabid archconservatives. Utter filth.

You guys should check out GamePolitics.com report on the topic. Hell I'm thinking of pimping Sins on it. However I think that might piss off SD/IC linking Sins to sexual controversy in the industry but hey ME is no sham title to be associated with either. After all with a name like Sins I can get some real mileage...

Also Kotaku.com posted EA's response. It is about time a someone in the industry forgot the PR dribble and not mince words with these religious pinheads.

Thank yee for the links sparty.

Cool! Dont forget to add your voice to the Amazon review section of her book. Please give it the same measure of respect and creedence she gave gamers and the developers of ME.

What is up with the text being slammed into one long string? Anyway, the VP of EA reviewed the book. Here is the Link. People should leave a comment in his thread.

Did that just start for you?

Schem reported the same thing, and there was a forums update earlier this morning. If it is newly appeared then something might have been broken in the update.

I'd post a comment there but I dont have an account sorry. But did you know in one of the issues of PC Gamer theres an article that says there has been a study showing games help increase response time and some other aspects?

Yes it did. UPDATE on the topic: it looks like EA is going to war over this. They have published an article in Next Gen. Here is the link

ARS just posted another story here is the link. @SD/IC - you guys should post in the EA VP thread as developers. The political benefits could be very good. Then there is always the spin you can toss in there with the whole "Sins" element. Lots of free pub if you spin it correctly. -food for thought.

Wow!! Amazon just deleted ALL the reviews. The last time I check them it was near 1000 and I was planning on make a post to that effect. I reloaded and they were all gone. Some people had very long posts. This situation may turn into something very cool. Sort of like the Digg situation last year. Anyway Amazon better reconsider doing stuff like that. I spend thousands on it and if they piss me off that money goes elsewhere. This of course is above and beyond all the negative publicity it will garner from such actions from loud mouth people like me with lots of outlet contacts and a driven passion once wronged.

BTW guys, I have a thread (and a forum) running on this subject. Its time for the gamers of the world to mobilize, and strike back against the sheer bull hockey these incompetent, brainless, half-wit ninnies are spouting!

Yeah, I'm ticked. Be ticked with me.

Yeah, but this one is the one I'm going to fight for at the moment.

Why? Because rampant stupidity on this scale offends me.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one.

BTW; Fox responded to EA and basically blew it off and the manner in which they did was so very, very wrong. A Bradberry text message from the News show producer to EA's VP telling him to contact the PR department he did not deal with such issues.

Lol Sorry but I find that funny(the text message)...

Amazon has started to allow reviews again. It is now back to about 500 reviews. Interestingly enough so news sites are starting to carry stories about the Amazon reviews. I'm still waiting for MSNBC to pick up the story or some other mainstream news organization.

On a side note, it is funny that all those antigame critics, both in private organizations and in public office are no where to be seen at the moment. Why dont they speak up and condemn Fox News for having broadcast patent lies nationally? They say they want developers and publishers to be more responsible and accountable and in fact demand it for the sake of the children despite the fact that most gamers are over 18. Yet where is that same desire when it comes to something that is beamed into every house in the US during prime time? It all sickens me to no end.

I keep waiting for MSFT to respond as well as Bioware directly. I would love to see MSFT & EA as well as affiliate companies and all game industry publishers and developers publically announce they will immediately stop advertising on News Corp subsidiaries unless Fox News ponies up someone’s head and delivers a full apology to the companies, the developers and most importantly the gamers on TV as well as a full page notice in each of News Corps print media resources.

Moreover for the Bioware response I so want to see the entire development studio outside the offices standing together as the backdrop.

Additionally, I have an idea I want to do but I simply don’t have the time maybe someone here can do it or knows someone with the time, talent and desire to do so. I was thinking it would be good sport and poetic justice for someone to do a machinima based newscast with the characters from ME responding to questions about the situation as well as the game in general. I think it would quickly become the hottest thing on-line like the RvB stuff was a few years ago. Any takers?

The real reason why video games cause violence is X-box live. Think about it. Every time you log in, a swarm of racist 12 year olds (or shall we call them prepubescent lads?) talk in their high-pitched voice and causes everyone to go insane. Then, as an irrational trigger, every time a normal person hears a high pitched voice pretending to be "cool" by excessively swearing and using every racial slur the normal people have to start stabbing the nearest idiot they can find to keep their heads form exploding. The news picks up the fact that the normal person just killed 8 prepubescent idiots, blame it on x-box live, and send them to jail for eternity. Thus, video games = violence.

really, its just idiots = violence.

Apologies for grammar, the sentence probably could've been arranged better...

I have read rants about that situation in several places within the past six months or so. It is a good thing I'm a PC only person.
