OMG!!!

I just saw this "discussion" about sex in video games and these loons actually called Mass Effect a porno hybrid because it has the side view of the back end of an alien in it as well as the side view of of a chest.

They are also claiming that the a new study from UM clearly shows teen boys cant tell the difference from reality and games unless they have an experience.

Why cant anyone with some real knowledge of gaming ever get some time on TV prime time to set these morons straight. There is more sex on TV, books & mags, movies and billboards then there has ever been in games. Yet to hear these loons games are the thing corrupting impressionable minds.

Additionally if anyone is interested in the background of this travesty it was all started by some Christian fundamentalist with an apparently very popular blog. Gamepolitics as the story here. The follow up after a massive revolt by gamers is here.

This nitwit said ME offers customizable sodomy to teen boys and some other highly disturbed comments. His angle is games = the devils work in 3D or some such bullshit like that.

The VP of EA reviewed the lady's book. Here is the Link. People should leave a comment in his thread.

It appears EA is going to war over this travesty. It has published an article on NextGen. This is the link.

UPDATE: Fox News responds to EA and basically blows EA off is a very unprofessional manner.

Yeah, even on my FPS of choice the really troublesome greifers are rare, and usually get slapped with a perma-ban the servers I play pretty quickly anyways. The easy to use mute features make it pretty nice, too.

Long live PC Gaming!

p.s. 1st on a new page, hehehe

Yeah, none of these guys on most of the pc games I play either. That comic was the first thing I thought of when you brought up prepubescent morons on Live, and also when I decided not to get a live membership.

Someone posted a link to the UM study on GP.
If you want to read it you can get it here.

Yeah. It is the one I like best so far. Game Life on Wired has a story now. You can read it here.

Remember that they have accomplished what they set out to do, get you to pay attention to them, get people to go to there sites and watch them on TV, this enables them to raise their advertisement rates and make more $$$.

Please remember that in our society that it is about making the $$ not exchanging information..

Now you understand? Reasonable discussion about a topic does not generate income.

Sadly the poor "expert" gamer guy was setup to get a beating by the other "experts". At least he tried to fight back but was cut off every time. The hypocrisy of it all just pisses me off to no end.

Also what is up with the double standard about chests? That has always irked me. When I was younger I asked teachers about it and the response was nearly universal. Breast were covered because they were like "sex organs" and boys (like me) could not help ourselves when looking at them we would naturally get aroused. Whereas for little girls and women it did not work that way because they felt all warm inside, but we as boys could not hide it. So the ladies had to -etc.. This is no joke. That explanation was told to me by several professional people at my elementary school.

Oddly enough I knew several fat boys that had bigger breasts then many girls. However they were not made to cover their chests and when I protested this clear double standard I got in trouble. Yet I was only trying to make sure the rules were followed.

Now there's a can of worms Alas, I don't think that part of our society will ever change - even if there are female-run groups and organizations protesting the same thing

In 1983 in Memphis Tenn., I was the spokesman for a group called Memphians Against Social Harassment. One of the things we fought and won on was the double standard of men’s and women’s Brest being bared. We obtained an order from the federal government preventing the city from enforcing this ordinance based upon selective enforcement of the law.
They allowed the New York Metropolitan Opera perform Shacspears Macbeth in the nude calling it art but prohibited women from bearing their chest in private clubs by claiming it was “pornography”.
The city no longer attempts to outlaw women being bear chested in private clubs. You can fight back on this kind of nonsense and win…
This event was reported in several papers back in that time (march to Aug 1983) as well as in the May 22nd issue of time and the December 1983 issue of Playboy.

This is the properly translated version of what bubb posted. It was made as a satire of the German game censorship laws. Nice find. Well, I'm tainted by mass effect, so i'ts back into slavering madness for me.

Somown please reasure me that the video was staged.. I can't belave for a moment that he filmed himself like that and released it without knowing in advance that it would be really nutty... Guess the gag is on us.. (I really really hope)
It was staged, read the comments by the guy who posted it. It's a satire on the hideously strict german gaming laws, and the common portrayal of gamers that led to them.

I wonder what Edward R. Murrow would think about modern news. Well I guess thats the thing really, its not news its 99% opinion. It all has a Jerry Springer show feel to it too, especially O'reilly and Obermann's countdown is like a Leno spin off. I miss Walter Kronkite. sad...

GamePolitics.com was conducting a poll on forgiving Ms. Lawrence. It appears the majority of gamers are kind hearted bastards.

Anyway, she gave an interview to MTV News (of all venues) regarding her comments and the Amazon & B&N bombing of her books. She is angry at gamers for attacking her books unjustly - go figure. She also says she stands by the research, which she gets cites in detail. From the studies I read that she is referring to I dont see how her position is valid, unless I misunderstand something and that is highly unlikely. Nonetheless if you want to comment on it please go here.

I just cant understand why, when there are movies out there like 'Straw Dogs' and the whole 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' series, people can blame a game that makes a major focus on moral choice!

Sorry if Im just echoing views. Blind religous based censuring really grinds my gears.
That is a major issue with our legal system and historical views coupled with new media and changing values as well as vested interest and new social paradigms.

Translated.... People act without thinking. If they stopped and thought they would most often shut up. If people took the time to think before they opened their mouths then the amount of chatter about things would, in my opion, decline by about 75%. Think for a moment about what would happen if 75% of what was recorded or written were eliminated.

Companies like Staples and Fox News would be gone! (Staples due to the decline in sales and Fox News due to decline in manure) :)

Its FOX news, I mean what do you exect.A rather famous comedian put it this way."You know, fantasy movies aren't selling well at all these days. I guess whenever people want to see some real fiction they turn on FOX news"Plus, never trust what the news says about any research, they always overdramatize it. Just like they did with the whole "Anti-depressants cause suicide" thing, and that time they actually won and scared everyone.

I'd have to disagree. I watched FOX News' report on MassEffect and I was very very angry with it. I'm still angry that they haven't officially apologized. With that said, FOX news is the most fair when it comes to reporting news stories. If it wasn't, then how can FOX News be beating all other cable news broadcasts in viewers by the millions?
