Windows XP Pro x64 issue(s)...

Uh Oh....

I've started from a complete reinstall of SDC (deleted all references to SDC and SINS) TWICE now and it hangs at the place listed above. What's going?

Even better...Not in Safe Mode and it installs! Mark my issue as FIXED baby!

1. download and archived
2. updated XML database, apparently that doesn't happen when you check for app updates
3. installed on a different harddrive (a RAID partition)
4. success

Fired up the tutorials and away we go................ ;-p

Having a similar problem with win x64, first it hang at 49% twice, after reboot it hang at 1 % twice. Nice that you solved it, but I'm afraid I'm too n00bish to understand this fix. How do I 'update the xml database'? I'm not sure how to make a raid partition either, but I can prob google that.

BTW, since it was always the extracting where the install messed up, I tried manually extracting the archived download file. That does work, but all the filenames in the Base directory, and all those below have a _ behind them (SINS_LAUNCHER.exe_ etc) so it won't launch anyways (Just making it SINS_LAUNCHER.exe doesn't work, and I don't feel like trying to rename every single file :p).

First:
Download and archive the game, make a note of where the archive is.

Then:
Reboot your computer and right before the fun text comes up saying "loading WinXP" mash the F8 key and boot it into safe mode.

Install the archive under safe mode ignoring anything it spouts off at you about how it can't find the network to log you in.

Reboot the machine regularly and it should work... I didn't try the XML fix so Im not so sure how that works... though I think it also required installing to a different HDD... I'd try safe mode first, just for simplicity's sake.

Tnx Gonzo. I had already tried the safe mode install, and it looked liked it worked. The game booted at least. Had to go to work immediately though :( I seriously considered calling sick, but ditching work for gaming sets kind of a bad precendent :p

I shut down the computer and went to sleep, when I restarted the computer the program installed without problem (I have not tried if it works yet thou).

Computers are weird, women weird.

Sorry guys, it was fixed for me doing the steps I listed. I'm not sure if they will help any of you. The only reason I mentioned RAID was to show I changed the installation directory, that's all. By no means is RAID required...sorry to confuse.

The XML trick was listed in another thread somewhere that I read. It's under your Prefrences > Adavanced tab in SDC I think. When I clicked update, it did a big download of something. Then I installed from the archive.

If Safe Mode works, then I'd say we have a temp fix for the issue. I'm not sure why I didn't to do it that way though. I liken it to Frogboy's comment that it is a WTF issue, although I think IC needs to look into it still!

Had the same problem, I have Win XP 64 and after downloading the installation stopped at 0 or 1%. The file it stops at seems to change sometimes after a computer restart. Downloading with Archive and restarting in Safe Mode also solved this problem for me... I had this same problem with the latest beta, but because I left for a vacation soon after it arrived, I never followed through on it.
I also had a similar problem installing the latest GalCiv 2: Twilight of the Arnor beta and that was solved by restarting my PC.
I'd say this problem is definitely a WTF problem because it doesn't seem to happen in the same way every time. If Stardock / Ironclad needs some more information to find the real cause, I'm always willing to try some more stuff, or give some more information...

I am hoping this issue gets fixed as I tried the safe mode way, and was extremely disappointed to find, that SDC does not respond very well to keyboard commands like 'Enter', so I was unable to install from the archive.
