I bought the game in a store tonight and registered it with Stardock Central but whenever I start Central it gives me an error saying "Failed to validate your Sins registration information." yet it still lets me launch the game. Anyone have an idea why it's giving me this (wrong) error message?

Best contact support@stardock.com for account/registration hiccups, they should be able to sort it easily.

I had that problem too so I emailed Stardocks support

Hi,

Sins of a Solar Empire does not require any activation. If you have downloaded this game through either Stardock Central (recommended so that all updates will become available to you right away) or through CD you should not be required to activate the product at all. Only until new content updates are made available will the game require activation.

Please let me know if you have further troubles.

Cheers,

As I also said in another thread that described this problem:

I recieved that error too, but it was just a registry problem, probably left over from the beta. I fixed it as follows:

Use regedit to go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Stardock\ComponentManager\Drengin.net\

The key (looks like a folder) for sins of a solar empire is "sin". In my case I received that error because there was also a key called "sins" there. Deleting it removed the error message.

Yea I read that thread, unfortunately I don't have a Stardock folder in my Software folder in the registry. This is on Vista, maybe that makes a difference.

That might be causing a difference, since I am using XP.
Hmm. Try searching for the "Drengin.net" key with regedit. The registry entries will have to be somewhere in vista.

Wow, I'm an idiot, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to use the find function! Found the key and deleted it, it was in a different folder because I'm running Vista 64bit I think. Thanks for the help.
