Ever since the death of Jesus the issue of who killed Jesus has been debated. Some insist that it was the Jews, others yet argue it was the Romans. I agree with both of them, while adding on equal par everyone else who has ever existed and will ever exist.
We did it to Him, both you and I killed Him. Anyone who looks at the Bible as a whole and studies the events leading up to Jesus' death will agree that all sinners killed Jesus, and every human being who ever lived (except Jesus) was a sinner. Someone had to take our punishment, and so God sent His son to do this. The Jews and Romans were merely tools used in the crucifiction that we brought about ourselves.
It all started in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve choose to disobey and eat the forbidden fruit. Man is inherently a sinful being. Our selfish desires lead us astray from the straight and narrow. What we have to realize is that neither one of us is a "better" person than another. We've all sinned and our doomed to hell unless someone did something about it. Thank God for His grace.
We (I'm not referring to anyone on JU, albeit people who do have heated arguements over this issue) need to stop getting so wrapped up in whether it was the Jews or Romans who killed Jesus, because the fact is everyone has.
In an outward sense the Jews arrested Jesus and took Him to the palace of the Roman governor (Pontias Pilate), where they physically crucified Him. Read John 18-19 if you're unclear as to what I'm talking about.
So in actuality if we're looking at this in a purely outward sense, the Jews did kill Jesus, because if not for their pleas and demands Pilate wouldn't have issued His death. He asked the people, the Jews, what they wanted, and they told Him they wanted Jesus killed. If we're ignorant and arrogant we can say the Jews killed Jesus; and if we're even more ignorant and arrogant we can say that the Romans killed Jesus. From a purely physical standpoint, the Jews were the ones who arrested Jesus and the Romans were the ones who beat, whipped and killed Him. The Jews and Romans alike were nearly tools used in carrying out God's plan of salvation. But really, it was me. I killed Jesus.
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. " Isaiah 53:5
