Now what would an IT pundit like John Dvorak have in common with drag racer Bob Glidden?? And with various 'puter techies I met a couple years ago?......
Limitations......
In the early '90s, Bob Glidden was at the top of his game. He had risen to be the dominating force in Drag Racing's Pro-Stock
division. About this same time, he gave an interview...and the hot topic was the 300mph barrier in Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions. He stated quit empirically that there was no way that anyone would be able to reach 300mph from a standing start in the quarter mile. Just some things you CAN'T DO! With in 3 years Bob was no longer on the top of the barrel, and was,
for all intents and purposes, finished as a drag racer. Currently Top Fuelers and Funny Cars are running 330mph on a regular basis...and the next "barrier" that is being discussed is 350mph. So much for "CAN'T"!!!!!!
In thirteen years of reading Dvorak....I have seen a shift in his attitude in much the same respect.....talking more and more
about what "can't" be done.
Now we come to the "newest" 'puter techies........many of whom accept the idea of limitations as a matter of course.
There are, however, many who still don't accept the word "can't".........
