Extreme Framerate Drops When Chat Text is on Screen

I am getting rediculous FPS hits whenever any kind of chat text is on the screen. This includes in game and in the ICO chat channels. I would guess my FPS is around 60 with no chat text on screen and it drops to ~15 or so FPS with it on screen.

What can I do? Any ideas?

Running E6600 Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, Gforce 8800 320MB all latest drivers installed.

The developers are aware of it and have reportedly fixed it in the upcoming patch (1.03) which should be here in the next week or so I think.
