Which resource window do I click on?

The manual does not explain how you select what resources in your military and civilian resource trees??? Say for example I cick on the military tab to the left. I then have about 4 icons lit and under different catagories. Like hull metalurgy, laser upgrade and etc. Am I suppose to click on EACH ONE of those lit up icons or are those icons just telling me what research is being done in that military research tree? I click on some and a number appears sometimes, while other times no number appears in the icon box? Would someone please explain this more clearly to me.Thanks

The lit up researches are ones that you can afford and have the prerequisites for at that particular time you visit the research tree.

You can then click on the lit up researches (or wait for more money/prerequisites for better ones depending on your strategy)

The number is related to some researches having degrees of ability. Example - The lit up laser will show up with a “1” showing your are researching the first degree and if you click on that again (depending if you can afford it) it will research the second level (showing another “1”).

Also, if you hover over an icon, check out the infocard. It will tell you what prerequisites you need to research that item. Just hit the pause button and look around a bit then decide what research path to take. You can also queue up several different items and it will research them in order.

Also, once you've researched the tech completely it will place a seal around it.
