Explosions and Particle Effects have Dissapeared

After a some time in any game, my particle effects and explosions dissapear. Along with the warping animation and other little animations. Has anyone had this problem?

I'm on a MacBook Pro running Vista
2.40 Dual Core
2G of Ram

Anyone have any ideas?
