Windows Vista Installation

"Fatal error during Installation"

Sins of a Solar Empire will not make it to the actual installation. It will guide me through setup, until the point where it actually begins installing. Within a couple seconds, a pop up appears, stating simply, "Error." No details, no other statements, no error reports... You click "Ok" and it goes to the Finish Setup screen, where it tells me, "The installation for Sins of a Solar Empire has failed: 'Fatal error during Installation' Please check your settings and try again."

 

Below that, it says to use the Games Explorer in the Start menu to install. I go to My Computer, right click on Sins of a Solar Empire (My DVD drive it is in), and clock 'Explore'. None of the setups inside work, not even running as administrator. Not on Easy Installation, nor Advanced Installation.

Please help.

I have the same error too, Talva. Unfortunatly I haven't been able to find a solution. However, the people on the forums here seem willing to help. I'll be sure to share any information I get with you.

What Vista are you running? (ultimate, home, basic. etc.) (32-bit or 64-bit?)

Can you try running setup.exe as Administrator? Right-click the executable and choose Run as Administrator.

I have Vista Ultimate and had no installation issues, FYI.

If you have the demo still installed on your computer it could be preventing the full version from installing. I had the same problem until my friend suggested this. Just go to ad/remove programs in you start menu and look for it. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem and none of the answers have worked for me yet. I also installed the Direct X on the disc just in case and downloaded the most current windows updates. ...and I copied the contents of the CD to my hard drive to see if that made a difference, I also checked for bad sectors on my hard disk, let my friend borrow the CD (he could install it just fine), etc. I think I've put about 12 hours into troubleshooting but nothing has worked so far.

If none of the other suggestions have helped, and you have a good internet connection, you can simply register the game and download the whole thing via Stardock Central. If that's not an option for you, I'd suggest contacting support@stardock.com about this issue.

I had the same problem, and thought I had uninstalled the demo from my computer. However, because it's so bothersome to find the "Uninstall programs" menu in Vista, I just delete things.
I uninstalled the demo the proper way, and then I was able to install the game.

Talva, I got the same error when I tried downloading the demo. I tried to download the file three times from two different sources, but with the same error each time. I just gave up on it and deleted the demo installer. The next day I was browsing through my programs (start > all programs) and found a Stardock Games folder there. Inside the folder were the Sins demo and a GalCivII demo that I had downloaded the week before. I started the demo from there and it worked just fine. I just assumed that the demo had never installed because of the errors. You may want to check your programs to see if it had installed anyway. I'm running Vista (32-bit) BTW.

I am having the same problem as the OP. I have windows vista premium 64 bit. Anyone found a solution to this problem? I would love to play the game

EDIT: also I have tried all the possible solutions said above in this thread

FYI for anyone that has a similar issue. I just noticed that you can download the entire game from stardock if you register the game using your serial code. I missed the post from the individual above, but it definitely fixed the problem for me, and I am happily playing now

Running Windows Vista Ultimate x64, had a fatal error installing until I read this thread. Upon uninstalling the demo everything went smoothly!

Hey all,

Having an issue installing on my vista ultimate 64bit system. The install runs fine until it gets to a file called stargreen.dds, at which point it hangs for about 10 minutes and then pops up with the following error:

Error reading from file ".....stargreen.dds". Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I am running install as administrator, have tried installing to multiple drives and tried registering and downloading from the impulse service, but I get the same result every time. This is really starting to piss me off...

If anybody has any ideas that could help me, I will love you forever.

If you're running into a bad file error from a disc install *and* from Impulse, that's really odd. Please contact support@stardock.com and they'll look into it.
