Anyone Played X2 The threat

Our local game shop has copies of X2 The Threat now for $10.00 Is it worth getting?

After reading the reviews it sounds very hard to play, and seem sto hav a mixed recption. Some love it and some hate it. Just like Sins I suppose. I gather it does not have a quick battle generator or sand box environment like sins, is this correct.

Is the campaign scripted or dynamic? Just wondering about replayability. For the price that is not an issue, but if there is a long learning curve a bit of replayability does not go astray.

I have watched some of the videos on youtube and the graghics look really good. I wish the sins ships had similar models. to me only the TEC have models that look like space ships.

Any opinions aboutthis game would be welcome.

X2 - The Threat was a great game for it's time; and in fact, I still play it (along with X3) so yes, it is worth it.

As for the campaign, I can't recall as I went freeform in mine. (The last I played the campaign was two years ago)

X2 isn't exactly an easy game to play, it's learning curve is similiar to another space based game out there (that I won't name) but if your used to playing space based simulators then you shouldn't have to much of a problem getting into it ;)

It's still a great game. I've been playing X3 for the past year or so now, but before that I played X2 religiously. There are plenty of mods and addon scripts available for it, so if you get bored with the default game you can try something else. Also, download the bonuspack before you start the game, it adds alot of stuff.

The single player portion is pretty short, but it gets lengthened by the fact that you need to make some money to get better ships in between missions.

There is a simulator training mode that could be called a quick battle, but there are only 2 combat missions in it. If you want to fight, just save near some pirate or Xenon sectors and just kill the hordes of enemies until you die.

The entire game is sandbox style, similar to Privateer or Freelancer. You can buy trade ships, fighters, capitol ships, stations, etc. You can automate station operations so they just sit there and generate money (until someone kills off one of their freighters).

Thanks for the replies.

I am fairly new to this type of game so I will probably find it a little hard, especially now after reading some of the reviews. I am still finding Sins hard for me. I am used to playing BattleFronts Combat Mission Series. I wanted something new and are trying space based games.

I went out and purchased a copy. For $10.00 I thought I could not go wrong anyway.
I will have to find that bonus pack mentioned above. From reading about those scripts in other forums they seem like a hard sort of mod to implement. Probably have to join a forum when I start playing it.

I will play sins for awhile till I get it down pat. I have noticed that when they release the older games in the value packs if you do not not get them quickly they soon dissapear and you miss out. At least I have it for the future now.

They seem to be releasing a few of the older space games. I think I may pick them up as I see them, just in case I need them in the future.

X2 is an awesome game. But just like sins, you either like or you don't. On that topic, if you end liking X2, consider buying the sequel, X3:Reunion, Its improve in many aspects of X2 gameplay, but IMO its more complex with all the new end-game stuff, if you like X2 and want more, then X3 is the answer.

Also, join the official forums, read up on all you can from there, there are many good guides in that forum which will greatly help with the learning curve. Also there is a good and friendly online community that can help you.

And on a funny note, I do feel sorry for you. Between Sins and X2, I don't think you will see the outside of your home for at least 3 months. Enjoy it. ;)
