Looking to pick up this game...

So I'm just now hearing about Sins of a Solar Empire (I live in the US, so it's been out a while for me), and I'm really excited about it. I want to download the demo ocne I get home tonight, but I'm having a few concerns over the population. I get that there aren't tons of players online at all times (I'm a bit spoiled from Warcraft 3 TFT, yes I still play), but are there enough at peak times (6-12 EST) to get some games going?

Also, I've noticed that there are some clans for the game, but I think that there is no official clan support in the game itself. What's the best way to join one of these clans (the main reason being so I have other people to play with when there are too few random people about)?

And finally, I'm seeing from the Wikipedia entry that it launches in the UK soon- will the US version be able to play with the UK one? Curious for many reasons, but the biggest being that a launch usually brings a lot of new players into a game at once.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The clans are more or less inactive and the game needs a much bigger online multiplayer base to support clans, but there's still lots of action for the online multiplayer during prime time; just not much clan activity.

Yes, everyone worldwide can play together.

If you are in the US you will be OK
At night for me (Australia) is a bit light on - but during the day on the weekend (which is evening/night in the US) there are normally enough people.
And of course, if you can host you are generally sure of a game :)

I know that the ports are the same for Warcraft 3 (port 6112), but I didn't do much digging around on the technicalities. If I can host in Warcraft 3, should I probably be able to host in this? I'm also fairly competent when it comes to configuring my router, so I'm hoping I won't have too many problems.

Should, if you have the forwarding set to do both protocols (WC3 uses UDP, Sins uses TCP).

Failing that, you can join a game that others are hosting. The only real benefit with hosting is that you can get some wins you wouldn't otherwise get due to being the last one in, or people quitting on you when you are beating them :)

Just get the game - it is great!!!
