My First Game

And the pirate base is right in the choke point!!!

Hey all. I went threw the tutorial and then started my first 1v1 small random map. Incase I run across this again what would your stradegy be.

First off there were accually 2 choke points right next to eachother. On one side was mine and about half the planets and the other side wich was just one jump away was the pirate base. Now the AI would always send scouts into my terotory but would never attack and I couldn't figure out why. Is it good having a pirate base right there or will the AI just decide at one point to send a fleet threw the pirate base to get to me like I did?

Oh and my 2nd Newb question is I heard that you get something special if you do manage to capture the pirate base. What is that exactly.

Whether the AI attacks might depend on the setting. AI can be aggresor, fortifier, econ, reseracher, or random. Easy AI on research almost never attack, so that may explain the lack of attacks on your base. If the AI does decide to attack, the pirate base won't deter them.

Capturing pirate bases dosen't do anything special. Its just an asteroid that you can colonize. The only benefit is that you don't have to worry about raids anymore.

most people generally will only kill off the pirates for the experience gain on their cap ships. the base itself isnt worth much. something of an exploit is to fly in, take out everything and leave the base. then the pirates will reinforce. at which time you can fly back in and kill everything. its a vicious cycle.

Can be worth it for TEC if you get the 4 logistic slot upgrade - can allow you to built a trade port there and maybe get a better longest route

You get an achievement the first time. It can also make a good defensive point, especially for Advent with their tac slot upgrades.

Is it just me, or is there just a tiny bit more of a chance for an artifact at the base?
