wow. I honestly have no idea how he could have managed to do this. Unlike what Cykur said, he would have needed to FINISH researching it before you raided his planets. So, I'm guessing that he took his limited income from his 3 planets and simply saved up to make one and simply PWNED U (sorry couldn't resist lol). I would have loved to see how the AI managed this. I think it would be under single-player auto-recorded games, though.

I don't think one shot from the Kostura can cripple planet instanly

He must have maxed out on labs and researched nothing but Missles before you attacked, he then let you take his planets and pooled his resources to buy 1 cannon lol

What i dont understand is, how did you lose? If you had 12 planets and he had 3, and if your fleet was twice as big as his, why didnt you go focus all your power on destroying the Cannon? Even if you lost a lot of your fleet, you had 12 planets so you could rebuild and re-arm much quicker than he could.

Also it takes 2 hits to totally wipe out a planet, how did you just sit there while he fired shot after shot, and it takes a several minutes for it to cool down!

I don't get it, how could a Kostura possibly make you lose a fight? It disables ships for 15 seconds only, this is not enough for a small fleet to eradicate one twice as big. no way. And buildings? Yeah it disables buildings for 3 minutes or so, but then again, wth? No phase stabiliser, awmygod, big loss. No repair bay, awmygod, big loss. You should wipe him anyway, especially that he just somewhat handicapped one of your 10 planets.

I don't get it. To me, the kostura is quite an irritating piece of crap, not a superweapon.
It might have been any good if you could somehow precicely measure the moment of impact. As it is, it has a very limited use as an enemy fleet crippler and only a sensible way to turn off enemy buildings.

The Kostura Cannon is actually quite powerful if used correctly.I had 5 planets all with the things and a fired um all at one planet.poor  guy lost everything before he knew it and couldn't do ANYTHING about it.my fleet was about 1/2 but they were all Enforcers,Flak(sorry if it a diffrent thing but the anti fighters/bombers one),the ones that carry some bombers/fighters,and 3 caps(the egg,the one with all those beams everywhere,and the planet bomber). the guy was Advent and his fleet was a buncha Drone Hosts,Illuminators,and a lvl 8 cap(mine were all 3 or 4).I pwned him on his own planet wich had 5 repair bays. This should give you a clue how powerful the cannon can be because i OBLITERATED his fleet,took over his planet, and colonized it myself.i lost 5 or 6 ships in doing it.4 enforcer and 2 of those anti  fighter ones. Though one of my caps almost got beat too(it was level 8 now>) but i got it out when it had about 700 hull left.my antifighter/bomber ships took care of most of the stupid Squadrons. The Illuminators took a real beating though. My allys were shocked when they saw the fight because it was the 2 of them against the single guy.they hadn't even gained a planet and had much larger forces then him.Then i come in loligaging with a fleet about half the size of his and obliterate it. There is a side affect to the Kostura.It disables your ships abilitys for as long as the enemy ships are disabled.

sorr if you can't tell where my sentences end.This was a true story and the guy owned about 3/4 of the Huge map. One of my allys was on his last planet while the other was busy building up another fleet.

Combining the scout rush with the maruader + assailant rush would be be an improvement. Subvert his planet so building ships takes ages and then use phase out hull on his capship.

Superweapons aren't as good as they sound because their abilities are very narrow and complex. The novalith cannon can only bombard planets by 2500 points, or maybe 3000, w/e. 2/3 shots and it's out (excluding the cooldown effect).Then we have the Kostura cannon which is rich in jamming weapons, disabling planetary works, etc. Can't really do anything effective, even if people find it useful it only works for a matter of time, you'd need at least one per planet to make it effective.

Advent have the Deliverance Engine which is probably the most effective 'weapon' out there. See in Sins it's not all about shooting and killing and taking over planet's...well it is but you got to think deeper and challenge your opponent mentally. It's really hard to master and that's why so many people give up with advent.
