What does planet exploration mean at 50%, 100%?

Hi,

I got a few basic question.  What does planet exploration percentage mean?  At what percentage do you get the benefits?  At what percentage does the special technology (if any) show up in your tech window?  Will the bonus (e.g. extra ship damage) show up when you hover the mouse over the entity that gets the bonus?  If you find the same bonus thing on two planets, do you get the bonus twice (Specifically, I'm thinking of the relativistic thingy that supposedly speeds up ship production)?

There are only two tiers of Planet Exploration, hence 50% and 100%.

I believe at 50% exploration you find planet bonuses like Megafauna, Penal Colony, Space Ponies, ect. At 100% you find artifacts.

Artifacts give your whole empire a bonus. The Kenetic Intensifier increases all weapon damage by 12%. Resiliant Metaloids increase hull points and hull regeneration by a certain amount. When you find an artifact, go to the research window, and it is the third tab, right above Fleet Logistics. It will show you what artifacts you have.

I dont think there are ever two of the same artifacts in a map.

I usually research to 50% on purpose and to 100% only by accident, and I've found artifacts many times, so I'm quite sure you can find artifacts at 50%.  I was under the impression that you have to research to 100% to get the benefits, but I don't know where I got that from.

There are two levels of exploration because a planet can have 2 different discoveries: the standard bonuses, and artifacts. You can only find one or the other (if both exist on a planet) for each exploration rank, but artifacts aren't limited to the tier 2 exploration. You can find them on the first hit, and a planet bonus on the second ;)

Once you find it though, you don't need to research another rank, you'll get the benefit of an artifact at 50% exploration.

There are 2 halves of the planet.  Each can, I believe, have only one discovery (I may be wrong on this), but... if a discovery happens to be on the second 50% of the planet, you won't find it hitting explore once.  Artifacts may show on the first time always, not sure about that.

Point is, first research is what's behind door #1, second research is door #2.  If it's behind door #2 you won't find it first time, and if it's behind door #1, the second research is dead weight.

I wish they would randomize the numbers of times it takes to get to 100%.  That would shake things up a bit and make "larger" worlds all the more valuable...if they could have more than one bonus.
