Do you support the civilian ship safety act?

When you could increase all of your ship's armor or hull points in the general warfare upgrades for less, what's the point of researching the Civilian Ship Safety Act?

Even more armor and hull points. Trade Ships end up with 10 armor after max armor research and the Safety Act is maxed. They actually end up having armor comparable to heavy cruisers in the end.

Realistically, its just to make sure your non-combat ships are much more durable. Really, I can only see it being used if your enemies have a habit of picking off your trade ships or when your constructors are affected by AoE attacks.

If I recall correctly, the enemy loses credits and/or resources when you destroy their trade/refinery ships (actually loses them, not just has the income rate affected); you also gain some credits and/or resources when you destroy enemy trade/refinery ships.

So really, it's just another way of insuring your money. Of course, I could be wrong about the above. Anyone want to confirm? Am I tripping or not?

I stand firmly opposed to the Civilian Ship Safety Act. It undermines the foundation of everything we, as gamers, stand for: the ability to indiscriminately slaughter civilians with military-grade weapons with little or no difficulty. It must be repealed immediately. If we hope to survive as a nation, our civilian ships must be no safer than a vacuum-sealed cardboard box.

I like it, if only because when playing on hard, the pirates in my game get it into their heads that its smart and easy to lie in wait at wormholes or stars to blast my trade ships to kingdom come and collect the bouty on me.

yes you lose cash if they kill your trade ships  (it is the only reason to use the Embargo skill on the Sova Carrier)

not sure if I got anything for killing them other than they did could on other empires "Kill Ships" bounty quests
