Hi all, Finnek,
At the basic level, I sympathize.
Without going into all the problems-with-Impulse denial stuff: the bill of rights (I admire the thought but do not value the actual thing enough to cap the words
) and in fact the whole industry should, perhaps, let people know what right a second-hand copy of the game grants them?
If I buy a 2nd hand car, the roads are still open - but in the country I live in I will need to make sure about insurance and safety of the car. The test has a price ticket.
If I buy a house that is not newly built, there are no closed doors inside - but I will have to pay a 'notary' for the transfer. And I may have to pay for certain services etc.
If I buy a 2nd hand TV I will have to re-program it to my umm...geological position (? - I am not sure this is the right phrase; please forgive my ignorance) but it will work.
Would it not be a good idea to tell peeps in advance what parts of 2nd-hand or 'used' software can and cannot be expected to function?
A decent option I think would be to allow 2nd-hand buyers to opt for
1) use current version only (no charge)
2) buy (for a few dollars) the right to update (ad infinitum).
3) buy (for a few dollars more, Mr Eastwood) the right to update and Multi-Play perhaps...although this is an arguable 'extra expense'.
I think you have, at the very least, the right to clarity.
