My advice, update as usual...personally I've never seen a performance difference but whatever, updatings always a good idea, and then simply play on very small maps...
VERY small maps.
That or I dunno, wait a few years when computers are so advanced they practically have rectum controlled interfaces and your sins copy is all dusty and forgotten, then dig it up one day and try it out on your new futuristic duds.
To be fair I'm runnng on a comp with a pentium 4, a Nvidia 256mb Geforce 6600 and 3 gigs of RAM, the very small map thing is all i'm capable of doing and keep sane.
