I just wanted to drop by some comments about the features announced for Entrenchment and that I think need rework or enhancements:
- Starbases - Each race can build its own unique starbase defensive platform. Packed with weapons, armor and other upgrades, one is capable of defending an entire planet.
Starbases in their current state, are not capable of defending an entire planet. Not even close. Specially the non-Vasari SB get distroyed easily and their range is really really short with 0 mobility and their firepower/defenses are weak compared to a Capital Ship.
- Turret Upgrades - Improve the firepower of your defensive turrets
I don't know if this is something anyone else has noticed or just me, but even after the upgrades to turrets, they seem to do the same damage and they don't seem to launch misiles or any other defensive armaments besides the standard lasers and fighters/bombers
- Subspace Inhibitor - Slow enemy ships that pass within its range.
In a few games I have already tested, this is the least used feature so far.
- Mine Fields - Defend your territory by laying down paths of destruction for your enemies.
This is by far the more controversial addition to SoSE. I personally hate them in their current form even when I play as the Vasari race. The ability to spam them and the lack of a true minesweeper is overwhelming and frustrating in their current form. They need to self destruct over time (which I don't think its a good option) or be limited in their number by increasing the cost each time a new minefield is added or by making them count as a fleet supply slot (so you have to balance out mines vs number of ships).
That's about it so far... I can't wait to next patch, I hope they keep working on this and if they need to push back the release date some more, I'd rather they do it than releasing the game in 2 weeks in its current form
