I made this a reply in someone elses post but i think it deserved a new post on it's own. What we are missing is the ability to control nuetrals. Entrenchment should change that. I know they are neutrals for a reason but it really ticks me off that if you have a neutral next to your home you have to do 2 jumps to hit a planet.
I think this could be fixed with STARBASES. They seem now more like oversized ships not really meant for defense more just as one of those road spikes in front of a car. Slow's you down doesn't do any damage other than the slowing you down. Starbases are too much of a BIG SHIP TANK MACHINE. Plus nothing stops anyone from going around them. NOT ANYMORE. Starbases should be exlusive to neutral places. Astroid belts and such. You plant one of these babies in the center of the astroid belt and bam YOU ACTUALLY GAIN A PLANET. Well a good replica of a planet.
Triple the size there you go. Planet sized. Even double would do a great justice. This would allow neutrals to play a much more strategic role. Not only would you get income from the resources. You'd get the income plus control of the neutral. I know doens't sound too great. But having tactical slots and being able to have LIMITED logistics slots would be very useful.
Changes needed for this to happen:
A) Starbases need to cost 50% more. Make it be strategic. (Whatever you guys at stardock decide)
B ) No upgrade limit. You shoud be able to max everything out.
C) Unlimited range in gravity well.
D) Immovable and have a x2 damage increase
E) Add differant upgrades NOT replace just add more. (Suggestion: why not allow you to upgrade 0-8 logistic slots then 8-16
F) Add tactical slots and do some moding to engine (i actually think it won't be that hard it wouldn't even be that big of a change)
G) Make these have underdevelopment costs starting at 5 credits 1 metal and 1 crystal. Make it able to reduce to 2 credits and .2 metal and crystal .2. Anything that is balanced.
H) As a response to G this makes the game more strategic depth plus you can't rush them without a major economy decrease. Give decent abilities to make the credits and metal go places. Example: Fast repairing and free NO ANTIMATTER TOTALLY SUSTAINED WITH develpment costs. First shield repairer.

Hopefully this will be a helpful post to stardock. If this can't happen in entrenchment. (don't expect it to, it's just as an idea) I'm hoping this could go into a later expansion or a patch for entrenchment as a Military Outposts (totally differant from starbase or replace starbases). I think starbases already are going in the wrong direction. This would be a great alternative that i think would work and would be balanced. Make Entrenchment give you the ability to entrench.
Also i'd like to see an upgraded phase inhibitor maybe another version taht totally blocks phase jump away or at least blocks enemy phase jump away for a certain amount of time 60 seconds wiwth a 300 second coolddown. Make it easier to have frontline planets (compariable to trenches *entrenchment again)
Also make mines placeable. Point click you jstu laid a formation. Thats right formation. Make them have increased range lower damage and home in. Not increased damge area home in wiht that increased range. Formation would maek them liekly to be used. Have formations of 10 that owuld each take one logistic slot. Maybe even 15. Just make a limit. Probally 10 or 12 or soemthing.

Hopefully this amazing amoutn of text *for me* didn't turn anyone away. For anyone who read all of it. I'd give you 5 dollars but you know Economy can't do that.
