Defeat at Kyrlvoc
Admiral Tucker had finally established a stable foothold in the Phaltos System. The 5th Advanced Fleet under the command of Adm. Tucker had fought for three months. For a month they had retreated on numerous occasions in the wake of the Advents Protogy Fleet. Finally, after a deciesive battle at a chokepoint in the middle of the system. The 5th Fleet and its civilian fleet of Colonists broke free of the Advents constant attacks.
Settling down on the 7th planet from the dwarf blue star, the 5th Fleet immediately went to work building up defenses and repairing the fleet. Under the order of Adm. Tucker 8 scout frigates began scouring the Phaltos System gathering intel on not only the Advent, but the rebel terran forces and pirates in the area. The Intel on the conditions of the system showed the only way in and out of Phaltos was two chokepoints on either side of the star. With the 5th Fleet in no shape to push for control of both chokepoints Adm. Tucker was forced to plan for the control of the asteroid Kyrlvoc on the Trader side of the system and hope to hold it.
Kyrlvoc was massive, taking up much of its own gravity well. It was the closest object orbiting Phaltos. Rich in resources, it had the hottest surface temperatures. This meant the only way to mine the asteroid was remotely from a starbase. Because of its resources Kyrlvoc was a favorite not just to the rebels that mined it. But the pirates that raided the asteroid twice a month.
The 5th Fleet, made up of two Kols, the Flagship the MARAUDER and the SPEARHEAD, one Dunov, the LIBERTY, and a Marza, ZUES, as well as 30 other varying cruisers and frigates arrived at Kyrlvoc with no resistance. Normally there would be a small rebel fleet fighting to the death. But after the Advent swept through the system, annihilating not only TEC vessels but pirate and rebels alike, most nuetral factions in the system left alive made sure to stay out of the two Fleets way.
As the 5th Fleet came onto station, scanning and taking control of the now silent Kyrlvoc. A small fleet of Colony frigates came out of phase space and turned to the asteroid. While the colonist frigates dropped androids onto the asteroid surface to clear and take control. The 5th Fleet moved to screen Kyrlvoc from any incoming Advent or pirate ships.
But Before the Fleet could get beyond the massive asteriod. The Advent launched their attack. A Fleet of 20 ships including a Radiance battleship and a Halcyon Carrier phase jumped into the gravity well. Within seconds swarms of Advent fighters and bombers came screaming through the 5th Fleet. Adm. Tucker, never flinching, ordered the fleet to move to get on line and push the smaller fleet out of the asteriods wake.
According to Adm. Tuckers intel, the Advent had suffered great setbacks after the defeat just two short months prior. Adm. Tucker was confident this fleet was the Advents poor attempt at holding the TEC to the outer reaches of the Phaltos System. The Advent had severely underestimated the 5th Fleets size and armament. Adm Tucker suddenly became confident he'd be able to push the 5th Fleet beyond Kyrlvoc and into the remaining chokepoint, Hylon and maybe beyond.
As the middle mass of the 5th Fleet shot left of the asteroid and the first ships to engage the Advent, Another fleet, this time bigger then the first, appeared at a wider angle of the first Advent fleet. Led by a Progenitor, 30 ships came on station in almost a straight line. Without warning another swarm of Advent Fighters and Bombers broke through the 5th Fleets chaotic line of defense. The 5th Fleet was now caught between two advancing Advent Fleets and Kyrlvoc
Almost immediately the 5th Fleet took heavy casualties. Losing a number of support craft. Adm Tucker facing defeat, called for a full retreat. The only way out of the battle was the way the fleet had came. The fleet took even more casualties as the ships turned and began to speed for the edge of the gravity well. As the first ships began to near the end of the asteriod and the Advents second fleet. The Progenitor Mothership countered by moving in to cut off the fleet from its only escape route.
Being one of the last capital ships in the fleet. The Zues was the first to reach the edge of the battle. Realizing that the fleet would perish as it fought to cut through the mothership. The Captain of the ZUES ordered the ship to ramming speed. The Progenitor had no time to manuvuer out of the way, and was forced to watch as the ZUES barrelled into it. Slamming into the side of the Progenitor, both massive ships turned into sidesplitting explosions and debris. One massive chunk of the Progenitors front hull lurched forward continuing in the path that the mothership was manuvuering just seconds before.
Trying to evade the huge debris field now laying between the 5th Fleet and its freedom. the LIBERTY performed an emergency dive to avoid colliding with the remains of the two ships. The massive chunk of the Progenitor now threatened the MARAUDER as it banked starboard and slammed the side of the ship along the searing surface of Kyrlvoc. Ripping huge chunks of hull from the ship leaving gapping holes in the ships already damaged side.
While the first portion of the fleet moved past the debris. The Advent continued to tigthen their chokehold on the majority of the 5th Fleet. Seemingly unphased by the lose of the Progenitor, The Advent threw themselves relentlessly on the remaining vessels. The Captain of the SPEARHEAD, knew he would have to sacrifice his ship as well to save the fleet from suffering a catastrophic blow. Ordering the ship to maximum speed, the SPEARHEAD shot forward and then turned 90 degrees to port using its thick hull and shields to cut a path through the Advents fleet.
As the SPEARHEAD cut off the 2nd Advent Fleet, the last 2/3rds of the remaining 5th Fleet fled towards the edge of the gravity well on the far side of Kyrlvoc. The SPEARHEAD then unleashed the last of its armament, allowing the 5th Fleet as a whole to reach the end of the gravity well and begin jumping to phase space with the 1st Advent Fleet quickly moving past the SPEARHEAD. Within seconds of the Last two Capital Ships jumping out of Kyrlvoc's space. The SPEARHEAD exploded with tremendous force annihilating Advent ships too close to the blast. As well knocking the majority of the two Advent Fleets around disabling them for the time being.
The ZUES and SPEARHEAD's sacrifices had saved the 5th Fleet from a devastating loss that would have left the outer homeworld open to an assualt and invasion. But the Advent was only cut off from striking at the Trader homeworld for a short time. The two fleets would gather and assimilate the remaining ships into one fleet. With two fully functional Capital ships and 35 remaining support craft quickly repairing themselves. The Advent was no wheres near finished with their push to finish off the TEC.
Hours later, the remnants of the 5th fleet finally made their way into the safety of the homeworlds gravity well. The ships immediately moved to dock and begin repairs. Adm. Tucker knew, while they had haulted the Advent at Kyrlvoc. The Battle for their homeworld was within earshot.
Before the 5th Fleet could even get fully settled. Flashes on the tip of the gravity well brought fear back to the hearts of the 5th Fleet. The flashes were followed by explosions and then the swarms of Advent fighters and Bombers pierced the inner ring of structures that surrounded the homeworld. The Protogy Fleet had finally caught the 5th Fleet with no wheres to run. Cornered and outnumbered, Adm. Tucker and the 5th Fleet, aswell as the Colonists, had only death to look forward to.
That was a short story i recently wrote. More to come soon. give your thoughts and opinions on it please.
