cap ships?

whenever i play a game, singleplayer or multiplayer, since im mainly doin compstomps online for now, it seems that i fall behind in cap ship production...

within the first few minutes of the game, it seems other people have 2 and 3 capships. i still only have my flagship... but i dont know how they can, seein as the first few minutes of the game there cant be anyway your economy is good enough to put up 2 capships in a few minutes. its barely able to sustain anything, seein as chrystal doesnt really come in until you have 4 or 5 extractors.

my question is, how should you play the first few minutes or so to be able to produce multiple cap ships?

getting a second cap takes some sacrifice, is not recommended for playing against a human

but if you do only the minimal research, (one tech lab plus cost of research for cap ship crew) then focus on building only the cap ship afterwards you can do it in less than five minutes

flipside that five minutes can put you behind

In older versions of the game it was an extremely bad idea to build multiple capships early in the game.  In this newer patch, carrier capships got buffed, so people build several early game because in a rush situation the vasari have few options for countering them, and people are exploiting balance issues.

Using "quickstart" with all speed settings set to fast (the "standard" for playing multiplayer online) you can build 2 capships right off the bat.  Drop a single lab, research additional capship crew, then research the next level of fleet while you are building your first cap.  Once it rolls off the assembly line, send it to a nearby roid or whatever, and just wait a little bit for funds to buy the next capship.  Won't take more than a few minutes.  You might have to buy some crystal.

hmm. ok. i think ill watch a replay, to see how they get them up. and ill try to "speed up" i guess you could say. i always play with all fastest speed settings, so i wont lose much touch for online.

the one thing i dont get, and i dont think theres much of a way to figure it out besides watch a replay, is how they can build 2 capships and a fleet of frigates at the same time

Not true; a carrier-class capital ship is extremely deadly if you can bring it out early, and is probably one of the favourite online strategies right now. 

 

The biggest thing you gotta do to get a second cap operational is scrimp everything you can.  Fewer labs, fewer technologies, fewer units.  This means you'll have to make due with low-tech units.  If you choose civic labs, you will have no military tech at all, which is very difficult to swing, but still doable (particularly as Advent)

I like using the point blank or close encounters map against the AI to test out building different fleet compositions early such as multiple capital ships or fleeting up quickly. This is also a good map to learn how to use the different capital ship abilitities as they are more critical to winning on this map. For example, try a carrier cap/LF rush on the AI. Eventually you will get good enough to beat an unfair AI on this map (if not already).

ok. im startin to figure out cap ship abilities and when to use em. i just gotta figure out when to build which kind
