Linksys sucks, need alternative opinions

OK, so I bought a new Linksys WRT120N wireless router. I bought Linksys because like Dell and Western Digital, it's the most common brand I know for routers and most people trusted them. I admit I don't keep up with the latest upgrades in their devices so I have to also admit I bought this model with ignorance.

It seems Linksys latest routers have had major issues with connetion drops and more. Ironic that I checked every other device I bought and failed to check this one and turns out it's a lemon. My problem is that I have to disconnect the power cord on the router from every hour to every 6 hours because the Internet connection gets lost over and over thru out the day. I will be returning this device back to the store for a refund and want to buy a differnt one and would like some suggestions. I don't currently have an Wireless-N receivers at this time but that could change so i may as well go for one that has G and N connections. One brand I am considering is D-Link, any advise on a particular model or another brand? Thank you.

I use a Linksys WRT54G and it works perfect.  It's a 1st generation one infact.  This site has helped me a bit with it:

http://www.dd-wrt.com

Although, you need to be extremely careful when you're upgrading the firmware on it, which this will do.  It's a lengthy process and if done wrong will "brick" your router.  And, "brick"ing your router does exactly what it sounds like..  Lol...

If you're not 100% confident and have done firmware upgrades before...  You may want to ignore this post.  Otherwise, it really did help mine out quite a bit.  Nothing like going with an OpenSource linux based firmware over the factory firmware on it.

I've mostly used linksys with no problems.  Have tried D-Link and Belkin.  Have one of each in a box in the closet.  When I went wireless I've used netgear.  I think it also has to do with what its connected to.  Charter cable's modum didn't like Belkin or D-Link and that when I decided to go wireless and went with netgear.  Haven't had any problems.

Well, here's my opinion:

Buying a new router today is annoying. Either you get lacking hardware or unstable firmware. So I suggest that you find a router with gigabit ports and 802.11b/g/a/n wireless support. When you find a few of them, check which of them support dd-wrt and if there's more than one, buy the one with the USB port (if you can afford it).

But if I had felt I had the money to put up for a DIR-685 I'd buy it in the blink of an eye. It just has so many sweet things about it... I have no idea how the firmware is in it though, could be the worst crap ever and I wouldn't care.
