Hi, can someone tell me how to change the fleet leader from one ship to another within the fleet? I am having trouble sending units back from battle when damaged; whenever i try and send the fleet leader out of a battle's gravity field, my whole fleet just follows it... I want to switch leader to another unit so i can continue the fight instead of retreating my whole fleet whenever the leader is damaged... Thanks for any help

Take this unit out of the fleet in tactics menu then send leader back, its position will be given to highest level capital ship in your fleet, if there are no caps to heavy cruiser/LC/ Flak/ Light/ LRM

If you're doing this kind of thing frequently, fleets are probably a bad thing for you.  I also like to move all my units around individually, and I find fleets cause me more hassle than they help.  Using fleets is entirely option and the only benefit is easier micromanagement.  If your particular playstyle isn't helped by fleets, there is no reason to use them at all.

Like the guy said, you have to remove the ship from the fleet.

This is what I do.  Select ship, hit Shift L (my hotkey for leave fleet - yours may be set different), then I hit Shift R for retreat, or I just grab him and send him where I want him to go.

Thnx for the help guys. I was under the impression that fleets are the way to go in this game, but I'm more comfortable just ctrl grouping types of units together and microing individual units during battle, (most of my RTS experience is with Warcraft 3 where you constantly micro individual units).

So if I want to have better individual unit control, it's probly better to not even bother with fleets at all? If I don't make fleets, can i still rally units from my barracks to my units so I can reinforce during battle?

Oh, and what's the hotkey for removing a unit from a ctrl group? In War3 you just select the control group, shiftclick the unit, and remake the control group... haven't figured out how to do it here... thnx.

Yeah, just remake the control group.
