I would like to know where the damage dealt by fighters is located in the binary files and how to tell how much that damage is. An operational BIN to TXT program would also be helpful.

I fixed the normal fighters by copying the appropriate file from my volumetric explosions mod into the DS mod.

yeah the Vasari SC files are from Entrenchment, they haven't been fixed for Vanillia yet (we are barely keeping up with Entrenchment and Diplomacy) so it maybe a while before Vanillia gets fixed, glad you got it working

The Elite files still need to be fixed most likely, and the extra command point is a lot harder to fix than the fighter files, though I may be able to copy the files from one of the other races command point file sets... I could try that with the fighters too... Hm...

I hopefully just fixed the attack value on the Elite fighter.

Ok, there is a reason the Vanilla version of Distant Stars has not been updated. There are know bugs. You find even more bugs once you convert to TXT.

Entrechment came out and we moved on. This mod is still in beta stage btw.

If you want a bug free version wait till after we release 1.0 for Entrechment and Diplomacy. Till then your gonna find a whooooollllleeee lot of bugs.

Which is why I like to be able to fix them myself. I've done that with all the other mods I've used, but they were all in TXT.

I will get the expansions as soon as possible though.

Do you have any clue as to where the initial command point values can be found and where in said file they are located?

But in which file do I find them? I think it's the player files, but I don't want to change those without being sure...

are you talking about command points for fleet or for strike craft?

For the Fleet. Vasari's are 1 point higher than the other races.

What about the initial counts?

And if I use Notepad++, what language, if any, would I use to read the binary files?

My little copy and paste of the values caused a mini-dump...

Can you give me a step-by-step-by-step directions for everything I might have the slightest chance of having to do to get the CovertData to work?

I use mostly GUI converts that others have written so I'm not sure on how to use the actual convertData file that comes with the game

try harassing harpo with his (the one I use is no longer supported and I was asked not to spread it around)

Sticking the ConvertData in all the files didn't work... I wonder if converting my entire C drive would accomplish anything...

BEFORE YOU DO THAT! I made a (hopefully) understandable explanation of how to use convertdata.exe manually, in THIS: http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/376497 forum. Ask if you have any questions, I use it a lot, because I'm lame.

DOS commands work. I'm happy now. Or at least until I have to convert all the files...

You have any shortcuts for batch conversions?

ryo-no-o download my refrence files. in the folders you will find a BAT file with a name similar to convertoriginal.bat.

copy the bat to the same folder name in the mod. copy in the relevent convertdata from your sins game folder.

open a dos box in the folder

run bat wait a long wile while the bat converts each file individually. the batches were crafted for the folder contents. if you want to convert an entire mod's complete  folder structure then the latest release of my modding utilities should be able to do it just extract all the files from the rar.

harpo
