The in-game map designer sucks and I really wanted to make my own maps but definately do not want to pay $30 to get my comp to read the .rar file so I could open and use the Galaxy Forge.  Does anyone know of any free or super cheap file readers?

its compressed in a .rar which is like a .zip.

You will need WinRar or 7zip to open it. If you google either or you will find where download them.

I use 7-Zip to open files of this type. It's an opensource file archiver that will open multiple file types including RAR.

I downloaded 7zip but had two problems:

1)When I tried to open Galaxy Forge (GF) through 7zip Windows gave me an error message that said GF has stopped working and Windows is looking for a problem. I tried this multiple times.

2) My Norton antispyware freaked out on me. It gave me like 6 or 7 items that had to be fixed, something about advertising or some crap.  Definately NOT blaming anyone, but just wondering what may have happened?

I downloaded it from 7zipdownload.com, a site Norton said was safe.  Although Norton could be wrong lol.  Is this the correct site or no?

Not sure on that one. I believe this may be the correct home site for 7-Zip.

Okay great got it downloaded off that site but the second i open it windows tells me that galaxy forge has stopped working.  I noticed that GF didn't show up in the windows list of programs i don't know if it is supposed to.  I tried both the 32-bit and x64 versions of 7-zip i don't know if that would make a difference either.  any guesses what's goin on?

Your .net framework is probably out of date. You need at least the 3.5 version.

It has been a while but I remember extracting to a directory and navigate to the exe, no installation like some software.

If norton blocks or fixed any GF files you need to re install GF forge and don't let norton mess with it.

Can you tells us which files norton is fixing..

As far as I know norton only fixed problems from that first site I attempted to download 7zip from.  It usually notifies me whenever it thinks there is a problem and I can't find anything involving GF in my Norton activity history.  It hasn't reacted at all to GF.  And actually, the 7-zip.org download process actually looked different from the 7zipdownload.com process, which actually showed me that it was downloading the adware.hotbar; I just didn't know that the adware was bad (DAR!)  . No I don't think this is the same problem.  I'm not sure what else I can do?

I generally work with rar archives. And one day something happened with my rar archives. I didn't know what to do next, but how lucky that I incidentally found out the next tool - rarfix. To my great surprise the utility performed my issue for seconds and completely free as I bore in mind. Moreover the application demonstrated me how it retrieved all needed documents even from corrupted archives of RAR format.
