If it's a work computer then you 'should' be out of luck with getting advice on how it is done.

Companies get pretty shirty about who does what to whose computer, how and why...

 Based on this sentence, I'd say he certainly is doing this on work computers.  Not cool.  Good luck job hunting!

on linux i can log in as root when i need to perform tasks that affect the system. On windows i cant evern copy a dll into the windows folder.

And seriously im not a complete idiot so i know that "security stuff is there for a reason bro" maybe thats why i ´have a admin account and my normal restricted user account. But when i cant even perform admin tasks on my admin account it starts to piss me off.

And trust me im not going job hunting over this? are you stupid? I want to be able to log in as admin and have full access to everything so i can move some files around. Win7 wont let me. Is it a security risk? ofc it is but i happen to trust the suppliers of those files i want to move its that simple.

Just like you trust Microsoft wont steal your home banking info which they easly could.

I understand the frustration with Windows 7 (and Vista).

I hate the start menu layout, so I like to have the start menu as a fly-out taskbar toolbar. For this you have to add the start menu 'programs' folder to your taskbar as a toolbar.

Real easy in XP, but in 7 you do not have permission to access the start menu... You cant add entries, create folders, organise your shortcuts, or, add it to the taskbar.

Each time I install 7 I have to wrestle with permissions and sharing just to get access to my own start menu - effin' ridiculous.

This is a clean install and not yet finished, but this is the menu I'm referring to:-

As for why you want access, that's another matter. My need is for usability.

you can also move the stuff around on the all program in start menu EX I have all my spy and virus programs in one folder.. so when I moved ccleaner to my Defenders folder I did NOT delete the ccleaner folder just renamed it to lets say Utilities and you can do all that right in the start menu but yes it is a PAIN in the ASS...   if you do it the way of TAKE OWNER SHIP you can do it from the start menu Folder  but not every thing is in the lets say your Fuzzy is the name u use for user name of PC some may be in Public, all users etc so you would have to TOS of all then move them and make new folders... BUT CAUTION is needed when moving stuff around in that folder.. when I did it this way some stuff was not showing up  thats way I now do it the PAIN in the ASS way ....  hope this is close to what you want ...

You did not clarify that it was specifically your PERSONAL computer...and NOT your employer's.

If it's your own then you are free to alter permissions/access...just as you can in any OS...but if it's a work computer - owned by your work then you won't be 'free'.

I can add entries and delete entries, create folders and organize stuff in my taskbar menu in 7 just like I could in XP. 7 does not ask me for permissions and I don't have to set up permissions to do it.

I do know the cmd -.- christ.

And yes it is a computer owned by the workplace. And im free to alter it any way i like. Mostly though i just wanned to sort out my folders used for source control since the ones under my user folder uses up to much path space so giving my compiler a hard time since it only works with 255 chars it seems. But moving my code folder to C:\ gives me hell with Win7 apprently i need permission from Everyone who ever that is. I have no such user or group on my computer.

And seriously guys not sure what reality you live in. But i work for a small(10 people) company we dont have a IT support section that handles all our computers.

OK, so the  Mythbusters might reject your reality and adopt their own...but Ownership and responsibility for Business computers resides with the Company Owner/CEO so in THE 'reality' advice as to how to alter HIS/HER systems can only be given to HIM/HER or at HIS/HER specific request, not yours.

Not knowing who you are or your motives for wanting to "format the hardrive run virus keyloggers trojans" means that ANY responsible person WILL NOT assist your attempts to alter/adversely impact upon a system which is NOT yours to alter.

Ok let me cut it out. I dont have intentions of installing keylogger or trojans on my work pc. Basicly i was trying to get the point across that "Im aware of the inherient riscs of running as admin i accept those risk... now windows plz let me do what i want to do". Basicly all i wanned to do was copy some files to my C:\ root dir. It wouldnt let me. I got annoyed.

But serisouly like i said its a small company if i had to talked to the CEO everytime i wanned to do something that needed admin rights i think he would get pretty annoyed. Besides he knows very little about computers in general so he wouldnt have a clue. Because we are a small company we have a very pragmatic approch to alot of stuff. So we dont have a "head of IT" who run all our computers. Each employee installs his own software etc. Again because we are a small company we put alot of trust in each other. So we dont have strict policies on alot of things because we count on the individuals sense of reason. But i guess that if you ever only worked in big companies your might not be aware of how stuff is run in smaller ones.

But anyway i solved my problem by installing a clean wmware image of my dev enviorment got things working. So i think it was maybe just a bug.
