It may work but what happens if it doesn't. A huge hole on the ocean floor and every drop comes to the surface...Bison....

Russia is hilarious. Pretty much saying 'You should just nuke it, that's what we do'

According to both articles, the guy who is apparently the main proponent of the idea a "Houston energy expert and investment banker." Neither of those descriptions make me think he is qualified to come within 1000 ft of a nuke, let alone decide it's a good idea to detonate one.

In fact, one could probably make a bad joke about how the economy went nuclear because of bad investments and banks and such. Bah bum bum chish! Yeah, I know, it wasn't very good, but I tried...

I wanna know why it's ok for BP to just basically go 'Oops!'

I know if I fucked up and cause something HALF this much of an issue, my ass would be rotting in a cell somewhere.

I think it's because the problem wasn't technically their fault. IIRC, it all started with a natural gas bubble coming up the well causing an explosion, which caused the rig to sink, which cause this mess. And it's also the employees' faults for failing to notice it in time. It's not like the BP executive board decided one day, "Hey! Lets go completely f*** up the Gulf of Mexico!"

That's not to say they shouldn't be held responsible, but I suspect that is the reasoning behing why. Well, that and the fact that they're filthy rich, and probably have bought more than a few Congressmen/women/judges/juries/law enforcement/locals/cats.

Haha, thanks. How about this one: The economy went into a total nuclear meltdown because of people like him. (and I know, it's reactors that meltdown, not bombs, but...)

I heard about this plan in school today...... what alarms me is that considering the other possibilities this mad scheme really doesn't sound so terribly bad......

My favorite part of this whole debacle was probably the thing where the White House announced that the coast guard would be installing a separate camera feed to supplement the one BP was showing them, at which point the coast guard announced that it did not have the capability to install such a feed........

Plus, now it seems like the guard is going ahead with the sand-berms-of-doom idea.... although that will likely change as well at LEAST two times before they get their act together.......

This is just insane. Thank god we have a president who would never do anything stupid like this. Nuking the oil spill would be like nuking the moon to look for water!

Back to this

We didn't nuke the moon; it was kinetic

Second; we actually found a form of water on the moon, which we can use, Oxygen for air for bases, Hydrogen for fuel for rockets.

Our president wants a way to get rid of our nukes?  Here's his chance!  It is proven, albeit unorthodox.  You don't need that big of a nuke; it's not like all the fish would die off.
