Release Notes

 Project Goals:

  1. Attempt to introduce pirates without the E-Bay bidding system.
    • (i.e. turn pirates off but still have them in the game to a small degree)
  2. Control pirate strength through research and some randomness
    • The research determines the two level of possible pirate fleet supplies.
  3. Add small taxation for causing larger pirate raids on enemies
  4. Introduce one new pirate ship (Blue Arcadia)

Approach Used:

I've repurposed the first two levels of Insurgency to cause the initial pirate raids against your enemies. The First level is free causing minor pirate raids. The second level costs 2% of your taxable income but causes more significant pirate raids.

In this version the pirates can't be stopped by destroying their base.
They will keep coming in various strengths until your enemy is defeated.

How to initiate pirate raids:

Research the first Diplomacy level to allow missions for smaller pirate raids periodically.

Research the Diplomacy level to allow pirate missions for larger pirate raids periodically.

 

Let me know if you find this approach fun or with merit and I can look at tweaking it more.

Going to try is ASAP. This is a great approach to making pirates fun.

 

This will be a great way to also see about making Insurgency more potent.

been trying to figure out how to change the Insurgency to use for pirates

Also of note insurgency is limited to a max of 3 levels. I used the first two for pirate raids and left the 3rd for the TEC insurgancy research and made it slightly more powerful than the pirate raids.

It's not perfect but it seems like a decent concept to build from.

Unfortunately once a TEC player researches the now one more powerful level of Insurgency they would no longer be sending pirate raids, but given the rebel uprisings will be more powerful it seems like an acceptable trade off.

I basically had this concept role through my head today and thought it would be fun to mod something along those lines. Plus, It gave me an excuse to play around with my pirate model of Captain Harlock's Blue Arcadia. A bit self indulgent maybe, but fun none the less.
