Star Strike by Ian Douglas

I've been reading a book by an author with the pseudonym of Ian Douglas, Star Strike. In it there's a rather interesting vessel, the Hermes which was previously named SkyBase. This vessel has the capability of phasing out of normal space into "paraspace"/subspace/Dirac Sea/etc and instantaneously transporting itself anywhere in the universe so long as the gravity well it is jumping to has been mapped. SkyBase/Hermes is capable of carrying almost half a dozen capital ships along with it in these instantaneous jumps, and then deploying them almost immediately. It would be fairly cool if a mod or a next version of this already awesome game were to incorporate this vessel type - it would certainly add a tactical advantage immediately to an otherwise lost battle or colony siege.

The Kostura superweapon already has this ability, enabling Vasari to open a stabilizer node on any world of their choosing then jump directly towards it.

I like the TEC best though. Also, a phase stabilizer node isn't quite as versatile as a ship-transporter could be. Consider this, having a ship able to load with any variety of ships you want, within space limits for the total number carry-able, and be able to instantaneously transport to any known/mapped gravity well. Not a wait for ships to travel all the way across the universe in phase space, but site to site, allowing for a ready battlegroup of capital ships to be deployed almost anywhere in the game universe when they are most needed.

Having just finished reading the book of this thread's title, it actually got fairly cool, to me, once the story moved away from the weirdness which is civilian life and into space exploration and combat.

There's a ship type from it which isn't completely matched, although I'll have a feeling that I'll be told otherwise since everything has already been done that can be done and whatnot, but anyway: a class of cruiser which serves as a 100 terawatt laser cannon. The laser cannons of other ships, in this book and not SoaSE necessarily, are 20 terawatts but the cruiser is capable of firing a 1/10th second burst of laser light every few seconds which is 5 times more powerful than a capital ship laser cannon.
