Ah, well I stand corrected. I commend you for actually taking the time to go through and read everything in that file.

no problem, and the Exhaust one i pointed out I'm kind of wondering if it represents the decay rate of the trails because the length setting that you can play with in options is this

ExhaustTrailDetail 0.430000

I have too much free time anyways, might as well help out somehow, also, added some more "defining" to it all, more "what's this bit wall of text mean and why do I have to look at it" friendly so to speak (it's colorful now) anyway, check out the orange section i think that might interest you a little GoaFan

and that was the final update, probably.

It's as defined as I can get it unless I missed some things but if you know it and I didn't add a note, or want to know it specifically and I was unclear leave a post here and I'll see if I can answer it. For now I'll say it's done

LastSelectedIsBlackMarketEnabled is at the bottom because it was a change/upgrade from the user file in Entrenchment.

ahhh that makes sense. you can't really just throw it in there somewhere as you please. Well that's cleared up but it still looks lonely at the bottom

I guess I never answered here before...  Strange.

BadTune

IcoServerAddress "ico.stardock.com"
IcoServerPort 6100                <------things you have no business messing with...unless you're trying to break multi-player

Or trying to get the game to connect to a different service automatically.  An associated change to the string file could change the button label to say the name of the place you changed that too rather then ICO.

BadTune

AutoSaveTickFrequency 900  <------didn't change this but I'm running out of colors, rate of autosave(in seconds[probably])

Yes, in seconds.

BadTune

GS_MAX_NUM_DIFFERENT_PLANET_MESHES 5

Sets the limit on the number of meshes allowed for each planet.  So far, I've only seen 3 for a planet, so that mean's we have room to grow still before needing to play with this.  Actually, we couldn't play with it before because of the memory crashes, but now we can, so...

BadTune

GS_NUM_WEAPON_FIRE_TARGET_VERTEX_PICK_ATTEMPTS 3

Every mesh has vertices.  The weapon has to pick one to hit it.  It get's three chances to pick one.  Usually only needs one, but not always.  Strike craft in a turn taking autocannon fire for example...

BadTune

GS_EXHAUSTTRAILUPDATEINREALTIME TRUE

Thought you would have played with this one by now.  My guess is that the trails will be choppy as they update rather then flow smoothly.

BadTune

GS_HIGHESTSCENARIOCOMPLETED -1

Probably for the tutorial or an old setting left in before it was decided on not having a campaign...  Or a setting intentionally put in if it was ever decided to add a campaign.  -1 in Sins typically means don't use, unlimited use, or user select.

I did try the exhaust update false, does nothing, I answered it in some other thread, think it was DS lol I edited my post. But yeah, tried a few things and there was no change, kinda disappointed. I think the GS section has to do with that first generated "galaxy" for the menu background, the first option in the list of them gets rid of any animation/planets/moving behind the UI completely, all you get is the star background

Thanks for the tip on this. I'm playing around in the GalaxySenarioDef based on that line, that it generates galaxies from scratch each time Sins is run, and I've successfully "edited" the backdrop on boot to only use Asteroids as "planets" and always have a blue star. The backdrop uses the Random and WeightedRandom to generate the backdrop. It also uses RandomStar to generate the star.

no problems, and maybe bright blue, green and red are a tad offensive on the eyes ^^; I'll switch them out for some earthy tones in a sec lol

EDIT: Recoloring completed, now with 70% less eyestrain than previous version!! it it now 2.0 ;O

"SHH! don't speak ill of him!! he may appear behind you!!" "who?" "Bucky O' Hare, Scourge of the toads" "ugh.....you were drinking toner and redbull again weren't you" "was it the stuff in that red can and that blue and white one?" "yes" " there were empty before I drank them"

WOOT!!!  What's a good max particle count?

MaxParticleCount 6000
MaxParticleSimulationsCount 2000 <---- This little orange section has to do with the amount of weapon fire, debris, stuff
MaxAsteroidCount 10000                       floating about on screen at any given time (vanishing SFX happens after this MaxDustCloudParticleCount 5000           limit has been reached and such)

what of reducing maxAsteroidCount to 5k and dust to 3k?

Really depends on your PC, just play with it and see what works for your rig. If the asteroids and dust doesn't have to be there at all if you really don't care for it.

One year later, i still see a few comments floating about on how to change some of the things in here. Oh well, figured out  where rebellion's file was hiding so might as well update it. Enjoy all you newcomers who want to figure out how to do some "fine tuning" to your game settings.

Changes do not alter your checksum for mods, nor does it make steam bitch at you and reinstall 'cause it's suffering from perpetual PMS. Anyway, enjoy, tell a friend, share the goodness.
