At this point all we know is that the preorder is only through Stardock (it is not tied to Impulse, Steam or any other client). We don't know if you will be able to preorder through steam or if it will even be available through Steam (it probably will but we haven't had confirmation).

Also it is a stand alone. No need to worry about steam, impulse, or any other client.

I can't imagine that they wouldn't make it available on Steam.  Releasing Trinity on Steam seems to have generated a great many new sales.

I would very much like to know if I can activate my preorder on steam. I would love to cut down on distribution platforms, and installed steam games survive primary hard-drive formats, whereas impulse installs do not.

My previous pre-orders were tied to my stardock/soase account - I'm really interested to know if that will carry over to Steam.

At this point it will not. I wouldn't be surprised if the preorder will only be through Stardock, but I could be surprised. If you want to ensure you get it on steam best to wait for the release and buy it through it (even though that means you won't get access to the beta).

I seriously doubt that it can be carried over to Steam given that the preorder is from Stardock itself. Although (I think) it's very likely that Rebellion will eventually be released on Steam, you'd have to wait for Steam to be selling it in order to get it via Steam.

I just dont get it... why would anyone be excited for a Steam option?

This is my experience with Steam, such a horrible one that I will NEVER buy another Steam game again, which sadly means no HL3:

Before I begin, I will say every game on Steam has been pirated or will become pirated in the future, which is ironic considering the DRM is supposed to prevent that and this casts doubt on how necessary a DRM scheme such as Steam really is.

Bought two games, Empire: total war and Dawn of War 2. Both games installed from the disk yet were required to be reinstalled online rendering the disk installation utterly pointless in the first place. Both downloads took a day and a half even though Ive downloaded similarly large files in much less time.

This is without a doubt the largest problem with steam. Updates and "updates" take such a long time over steam because they are done by an overbearingly "safe" process. Steam is like an overprotective mother who's strict impositions ironically lead to her kids to drinking and drugs and other bad things. Of course, some of the good kids (steams loyalists) still stay behind in the name of "good" and "supporting momma".

Now I dont "drink" or "inject" or "snort" stardock games, because their DRM is just great. I mean seriously, what's the fucking point of using Steam over Impulse? "OH NOES! THE IMPULSE CLIENT GRAPHICS SUCK! THE STEAMZ ONZ LOOKSIZ FANCIEZER! ANDZ UM STEAMZ IS BETTERZ BECAUSE IM ITS ITID MADED HALF LAEEEF AND STUFFS!"

Quoting DUTCH-BUDDHA,
Steam steam steam =

=no cd

= easy multyply

=easy addons (DLC)

=easy paching

=easy buying

=its just easy

i wandt my rebellion cd key can be activatet on steam or if the steam discoudt is big then i dont buy it reatail

(budt i still like tho have cd dvd cases on my shelfs of my games colections)

Explain why a digital download is more convenient than simply installing the damn game from a disk.

Explain... easy m-u-l-t-y-p-l-y? So you like the fact that you can type to other friends while playing a game? This is hardly a reason to extol steam over impulse.

Explain "easy buying" "easy dlc", "patching" and "its just easy".

I guess my suspicions are confirmed... everyone who uses Steam knowingly over other options is a downie...

The only benefits digital downloads have over disc games are that you can't accidentally damage your disc (damaging it's content), obviously, and that they save up physical space.

Steam is the superior platform,

- Last time i checked impulse's archive system was still broken at worst, clunky at best - Steams archive system is awesome and if you dont want to use it you can just backup the directory and copy the whole directory back and steam detects its.

- Impulse now seems to be run by gamestop, which is worse than valve

- Patching quality has dropped off, I was about to buy hero's VI off impulse as it was dirt cheap, only to check the impulse forums and see that the impulse version has not autopatched (steam has autopatched) - and them I see an impulse employee say in the forum that impulse won't be patching the game and you have to patch it yourself... thats half the point of digital distribution.

Upside for stardock on this is that i will be buying demigod & trinity again on steam, just so I can ditch gamestop.  I would have preordered rebellion on steam but will happily wait for it to be available on steam and pay an extra $10 to have steam integration.

End result is the same, sins is an awesome franchise and I will continue to buy it when it becomes available on the right platform

Thats only one game youve listed that doesnt autopatch.

I doubt many people use the archive system. Its a convenient side feature at best.

However I agree with your dislike of gamestop.

What really blows about Steam is the mandatory updates, having to be connected to the internet to play a game, etc. This is especially "blowy" if you have a rat ass connection speed like mine. Whats more is that the purpose for these "mandates" is completely defeated; every game on Steam has been pirated.
