So, I have been interested in modding this game on steam and I want to download some mods but downloading mods on steam is a lot harder for some reason. I have been trying to figure out a way on which to download the game but I find it hard to do so. So does anyone know how to mod this game on steam and where do I go to find the mod folder when I make a backup file?

Go to the main menu, mods tab. Hit the "show mod path" button. Where ever it tells you the mod folder is at is the folder you must use.

The best place to get mods is from either websites or threads maintained by the modders themselves. Anywhere else risks them getting out of date with new patches.

A lot of info about modding these game at http://soase.weebly.com/ ...

You don't really need steam for mods... you can start game directly from the .exe and if you are modding, you will use a lot the dev.exe who can only be launch manually...

Take your time to browse the link in these post... you will find all info/tools needed for start modding sins...

I think I may have moved the game files to a easier location to find the game files though so I am not so sure if that screws up where the mod path is. Is the back up files where you download mods to?

You cannot move the mod folder, if you do that Sins will not read it and just create a new one the next time you try to do anything with mods. Make shortcuts to the folders, don't move them.

So, am I just going to uninstall and re install the game to get the files back to where they were and get them working?

That should work. Then go to the location show mod path takes you to and make a shortcut on your desktop or where ever.

Never heard of it. You'll have to ask the modder himself.

This is a good place to find (mostly) up to date mods. The modding forum here that you posted in is also a good place, most of the mod threads will say what versions they are for.

As you have trinity, you can use mods for any version so long as they are up to date (vanilla 1.193, entrenchment 1.053, and Diplomacy 1.34), though some mods that are slightly older (Diplomacy 1.32, Entrenchment 1.051) may still work. Diplomacy is the newest expansion and mods for that will typically have the most content.

The link for some reason is not working. I typed in where to go and it is saying to me that the link that I am going to is not working for me or I have misspelled it. I don't know what I did.

So now I had some improvements. I created a My Mods file in the mod place for diplomacy and now it shows up on my game. But when I went to put a mod in there it will not activate or even go in the files. I wondered what was wrong with it and I wonder did I screw it up or mess up the files to mod the game?

For a mod to show up it needs to be in the form of a regular folder, not a .zip file or something. Once you see it in the available mods list, select it, hit the enable mod button, then hit the apply changes button.

So like: I should make a new folder then title it: SoA 2 Diplomacy and then place the file in there? Is that how it is done?

What type of file is it? If its a zip, 7z or rar file you need to extract it first, then it will be a folder.

Just a new folder. So I tried to install the Stargate Invasion mod and I made a New Folder titled it SGI Diplomacy and stuff, and when it was done I went to the game and went to mods I found the file there and went enable and hit apply changes but when I got to the mod it just went back to the main menu of the regular game. I don't know what is wrong with this but it keeps happening. Does this happens a lot with trinity? And at the end of when I am downloading the mod there is like a extra load thing where it says it is copying the files to somewhere but I am not quite shure.

I checked and found out that it was a 7Z file. Don't know what to do with that though.

Quoting SINS001,

Download the program 7zip. Its a free open source program that can extract all types of compressed files used by modders. Since you can't download a regular folder all mods need to be in a compressed form when you download them (zip/7z/rar), once download, you extract them to the mod folder, where they will then appear in folder form. Do not create a new folder and put it in there.

Also for gameplay mods, you should see the checksum in the upper left change to something besides a bunch of 0s. If not there is probably an extra folder throwing things off somewhere.

I have version 1.34 for Diplomacy. Would I have to do something to get mods to work for that? I wonder what mods are out that I can play 1.34 mods on?

When i try to do so, game crush happens with a link to a dump file.

Am i doing something wrong?

P.S. I use steam version.

That basically means something with the mod isn't right. If you downloaded a mod to play make sure its for the right version of Sins you have (probably Diplomacy 1.34), and you followed any other instructions for that mod. If you tried to make a mod yourself, you probably either used out of date reference data or made a change incorrectly.

Every tutorial for modding anything in Trinity, tells me to go to the Ironclad games folder and mod from there. Rebellion folder is there but the rest of the games(diplomacy, entrenchment) are no there. The mod path shows it going through Ironclad games and I've used Desura to add mods but there are some that I want that are not on Desura. What do I do?

Are you wanting to mod for trinity or Rebellion? The locations for everything is different in Rebellion, you place the mods in your "My Document" -> "My Games" -> "Ironclad Games" folder. Note that due to the recent update many mods may not be updated yet.

weirdedout, the path to the trinity mod area is different to the rebellion path

the rebellion path  is '\my documents\my games\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire rebellion'

and for trinity/sins 1.193/entrenchment 1.053/diplomacy 1.34(the current non-beta versions), AND your windows is installed on the 'C:' drive,  the Mods NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.193
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.053
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.34

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-v1.193
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.053
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.34

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator

note 3 these shortcuts assume your windows is installed on 'C' drive

hope you can now find the correct location to place the mods now, and it is also a good idea to create a shortcut to the sins mod area on your desktop

harpo
