Directory of Planet Mods

This thread is a directory of sorts providing links to various planet and star mods.  Given the nature of the Sins community, many mods may pool graphics from the same sources, and often conversion mods include their own planetary graphics without standalone versions.  Nevertheless, this is an attempt to provide links and downloads to mods that are predominantly textures and graphics used for new planetary content.

Let me be clear: I am by no means trying to "appropriate" others' works.  Rather, I'm trying to make it easier to find these planet mods (something difficult given how many threads are under the "Mod" section)...

Please, please, please post links to mods that are not already listed...a comprehensive list for the community would be great...

Clicking on the name of the mod will take you to the official thread or website.  Direct downloads to the most recent/applicable/pure version have also been provided.  Please note that the date indicates when the download link was established, and not when the mod was most recently updated.

Some of these threads are dead, and some are managed by modders who, while active, are very busy with other projects.  Therefore, questions pertinent to a particular mod probably should be posted here as well as the mod's actual thread.

TO THE MODDERS:

If your mod is listed here and you would like to have it referenced in a different way, please let me know.  If improper credit has been given please let me know so I can fix it right away.  All downloads located below are hosted by me on MediaFire; they are not hosted by the original creators, but are the same versions I have acquired through the provided links.  This has been done for the convenience of those reading this thread and to serve as backups for any of these mods.  If you do not want a copy of your mod hosted by me, let me know and I will change the link.

Sins Plus

Sins Plus is an old classic, one that has been incorporated into many mod projects.  Created by Uzii, the thread is long dead and the original mod is no longer supported.  Fortunately, various forms of Sins Plus have been updated and repackaged by a variety of people over the years.  One such version by rjhughes67 packages it with ManShOOter's Volumetric Explosions, Bailknight's Graphics Mod, and the Sins Optimization Project.  A version exists for both entrenchment and diplomacy.

Rick's Galaxy (has links to both versions)

A more "pure" form of Sins Plus for Diplomacy also exists (Check out dolynick's Galaxy Mod or Cosmos Ad Infinitum)

Infinite Space

This currently is a work in progress.  AxelDude has released a series of new content, including both new textures/meshes as well as revamped versions of Sins Plus and the vanilla assets.  These textures are extremely well done, and avoid the polar pinching that many planet mods often suffer from.  Eventually all of the textures will be coupled with icons as well.

The thread is still active so watch for updates and new content!  AxelDude also has his own website with pictures, links, and details.

dolynick's Galaxy Mod

This is an updated version of Uzii's Sins Plus.  Created by dolynick, Galaxy Mod is a complete and playable standalone mod that is also incorporated in Stargate Races.

dolynick's Galaxy Mod v1.06 (12/06/2011)

Additionally, dolynick has created a Planetsize Mod that increases the size of planets and gravity wells for realistic purposes.  Ship speeds are changed accordingly.  For details on how to stack this with Galaxy Mod see dolynick's thread.

dolynick's Planetsize Mod v1.03 (12/07/2011)

Cosmos Ad Infinitum

Created by ZombiesRus5, Cosmos Ad Infinitum is currently 4 separate standalone mods, each with its own unique planets and textures.  Features include different planet sizes, fantastic textures, and an updated version of Sins Plus.

Cosmos Ad Infinitum has been incorporated into Sins of the Fallen and is hosted on MODDB.

Novus Universum

Made by NovaCameron, this mod adds a lot of new content.  Noted for its realism and high detail, Novus Universum features moons, 8 planet sizes, a variety of stars, and much more!  Much of NovaCameron's work has been incorporated into the conversion mod Star Wars: Sins of a Galactic Empire.

Novus Universum v1.2 (12/06/2011)

A set of Galaxy Forge planet icons for Novus Universum has been created by Ludo Kreesh.

SoGE Galaxy Forge Planet Icons v1.0 (1/03/2012)

Celestial Bodies

Created by TohKlidan, Celestial Bodies offers a host of new planets and stars.  Features of this mod include different planet sizes (Moon, Dwarf, Normal, and Huge), black holes, new scenarios, and companion stars.

The related thread provides more details regarding the mod, but unfortunately has not been kept up to date.  However, an updated version (Entrenchment 1.053) has been created by rjhughes67.  Adaptation to Diplomacy will have to be done on your own.

Celestial Bodies v0.9.2 (12/06/2011)

Multiple Stars Graphics Mod

A nice little change by boshimi336, this mod removes the colored spiral each star system is represented by when zoomed out.  This mod makes for a much cleaner map and better experience when playing on multi-star maps, especially those with lots of stars.  This work has been incorporated into Distant Stars, though a slightly different version is used for that mod.

Would appreciate more details on Sinplus, if anyone knows of a "pure" but updated version that would be great....

Added celestial bodies and Boshimi's Multiple Stars mod...if anyone knows of other planet mods please let me know...the only other source I know of is Rick's Galaxy....

If you need anything that was included in DS as an updated component, I would first say hunt it down and if the mod isn't maintained, use harpo's update tools to see if you can get it to work and upload it. Failing that, Stant123 or Ryat might be able to throw updated files for the planets alone.

Eventually I'll have a series of planet symbols out for DS, changing the zoomed out appearance, but not the planets themselves. Think DoV style minus the UI changes. Still working on it.

Just an info tidbit for the OP, NU has been fully incorporated in SoGE (as of the beta) and has even been slightly tweaked; the original alpha testing for that mod was done in the beta as well. Uzii was the original maker of Sins Plus, and I believe dolynick made a version for Entrenchment that stays very close to the original version.

Okay, added dolynick's galaxymod, mentioned SoGE....keep the advice/suggestions/additions coming...

Is there a "pure" form of Sins Plus?  The one on Rick's Galaxy apparently includes a bunch of stuff other than planets....

Also, is there a version of Celestial Bodies that is meant for diplomacy?  I'd assume the textures are still valid but the text files would have to be updated for diplomacy...

GalaxyMod is what I think you'd call a pure version of Sins Plus.  It contains additional planet types only.  It has been slightly modified though in terms of spawn frequency in random maps and the removal of the ship graveyards (causes problems for the AI).  I may have also made some small adjustments to a couple upgrade costs that were out of whack and tweaked build slots on gas giants.  Aside from that, I don't think I changed anything else as I wanted to keep it as close to the original Sins Plus as possible (I only started maintaining because a current compatible version was tough to find so it was easier to just do it myself) and purely a planet adding mod that makes no other changes to the standard Sins gameplay.

I see you are linking to rehosted downloads for the mods.  That's fine I guess but I should mention that a v1.34 compatible version of GalaxyMod is ready, I just haven't posted any download links to it yet as I'd like to finish up the SGRaces updates to go with it.

Oh, and nice compilation thread btw.  I'm glad you chose to include GalaxyMod.

Woops.  I kind of missed the little mention in the other section... or did you add that while I was replying? :p

I am only updating GalaxyMod for Diplomacy these days, but I more than likely still have the Entrenchment v1.051 compatible (last one I updated to) version kicking around.  I no longer host it but I could make it available to repost if you'd like to maintain the download.

This is the link to the newest v1.34 compatible version of GalaxyMod that I intend to offer.  You can link to it now if you like since you're putting this all together now.  I reserve the right to revise the 1.06 version if I find a problem, so consider it an "unofficial" release at the moment.  I do not forsee any changes coming though.

Good to know...I thought it might be (I used those graphics for Project Equilibrium) but I wasn't sure...

Okay...will that download be available on the forum thread linked to above?

Barring any last minute changes, that should be the link I end up posting in the SGRaces thread.  It was just ready ahead of the others and I've been sitting on it for the time being.

Great--someone should make a cargo pod planet model too--I'm sure those will be popular--make it really small, about the size of a scout.

O:)

Might as well just have a 'derelict' deep space sector where you can put 'mines' on large ship components at that point.

If you like, you might as well include my PlanetSize mod too.  It increases the size of the planet models and their wells respectively.  It only makes two gameplay changes:  1)  It modifies the default ship speed controls for slow, faster and fastest.  Faster is intended to roughly balance the travel times across well with that of normal Sins planet/well sizes.  2)  It modifies the scalars for fleet size setting to 500/1000/2000 instead of 750/1000/1500.  This is a concession for stacking with my actual FleetSize mod.  The PlanetSize mod stacks with GalaxyMod with no modification and is completely optional if desired.  Here is the link for the v1.34 compabible PlanetSize mod (like the new GalaxyMod, consider it "unofficial" for the moment).

Would that happen to be e1.02? As if so, I have a copy of that and can/will maintain the dl link for it for this thread.

Possibly.  I'd have to check myself.  The readme for any of my mods should tell you which version of Sins it's for, right at the start of the file.

Says it's for v1.05; so I assume it's an older version.

Okay...the links for dolynick's mods are up to date (Diplomacy v1.34)...

There is now a link to AxelDude's website...

myfist0, if you want any details added to your link let me know....

If there are any other planet mods out there please let me know...trying to be comprehensive....

I have actually been working on one for some but am waiting for Rebellion first. I used Celestial Bodies for the planet models.

Well...if you do happen to release something before then, let us know?

But it's classified!

Actually, needs fixing since the subsequent 1.3 * updates and I haven't sat down to do it yet.

Cosmos Ad Infinitum

Created by ZombiesRus5, this mod includes a lot of planet textures...more details to be added later...

There are a lot of links, so I won't repost them...in any case, they are at posts 5 and 36....
End of quote

Cosmos Ad Infinitum is hosted on moddb.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/cosmos-ad-infinitum

This mod contains stand alone downloads of the planet textures compatible with Diplomacy 1.34 (new download is pending).

The only game play changes with this mod are slightly modified extractor counts based on Dwarf, Normal or Giant planets.

Sins of the Fallen also supports these same planets.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/sins-of-the-fallen

The planet mods included with SotF are treated as addons and may contain additional game play changes such as planet bonuses, health, population counts (still a WIP on some of this beyond planet bonuses).

These planet mini-mods are only compatible with SotF while the above Cosmos are only compatible with Diplomacy 1.34.

Alright thanks Zombie...updated Cosmos Ad Infinitum and will be adding a link shortly...

Thanks everyone for all your help!
