Phase Line not lined up correctly?

Hello.

 

I am a new player of Sins of Solar Empire and kind of growing on it and starting to enjoying it properly.

But I have an issue I find really annoying. It has to do with Phase Lanes. For some reason when ships travel to other systems they dont use phase lane but travel next to them? And it is difficult to set up defence if you dont know where it actually is. Have anyone a fix for this and can help me? Image of problem is attached.

The phase line is a "baseline".  If you are to one side or the other of it in  a gravity well, you usually when phase into the new system to that side as well.

When you select your movement to the new system, zoom in a little on it and notice where the blue arrow points.  This shows you where you will arrive--and travel to after arriving--before your movement order as given is complete.  If you don't like it, you can adjust it by repositio9ning to one side or the other--or changing your stop point in the other system.

The phase lane line displayed is only an indication of the center of the phase lane. The actual phase lane extends for something like 30 degrees to either side of the line. Ships ordered to phase jump will be jumping parallel to the phase line, but will not necessarily jump at the line itself.

This is a fantastic trick to avoid mines or SBs...

In some cases, you can also significantly speed up how long a multi-jump journey takes...ships travelling across the gravity wells of stars or gas giants take forever, so if you can have them jump on the appropriate side of the planet (the side they will need to be on to jump to a 3rd planet), you significantly reduce real space travel time....useful also for going through pirate bases....

This is intended so that players have a bit of control of where they come out of a phase jump, so that they can avoid defenses or arrive right on top of an enemy fleet. Where you exit the gravity well you exit will determine where you arrive at your destination. Play with it a little by ordering your fleet to one side of a phase lane (as mentioned you can be about 30 degrees of), see where the blue lines take you, at your destination, then go to the other side of the phase lane, and you'll notice you'll arrive at the other side. Its a vital skill for an experienced player.
