Will it be available to buy from Amazon here?
Do I have to buy it from the Steam shop or GameStop?
You pre-order the game online (http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/preorder), and once you do you will be emailed a key. This key has to be used with Steam in order to download the beta.

If you are talking about a retail box, there has been no confirmation about getting a retail box yet. if you order the game directly from the stardock shop there is the possibility to upgrade your digital copy into a retail one for a small fee later, if they do it similar to their previous releases. If you buy on steam or gamestop I'm not quite sure you will be able to do that.
We have no plans for a retail boxed release. We are planning for a special limited collector's edition available directly from Stardock, though.
So those who got the preopred driectly from your store can upgrade again?
If there is an edition available to upgrade to, then yes there will be an option.

Ordering a Retail Box directly from SD would be pretty annoying ... I would have to spend one full day to get my package from the toll ...
Then it will have to be the digital version.
It would have look good next to my SoaSE preorder LE Box.
