Corvette balance

I've noticed that the "disruption matrix" ability for the loyalist TEC titan seems a little too powerful. With one hit it can destroy every single corvette around it, this seems like a balance issue. This could be fixed with say, a limit for number of ships it affects.

Or it could be made not to target corvettes...or it could target corvettes, but do less damage to them, perhaps?

No as Corvettes are classed Frigates in game code.

Just can't kill this thing with frigates unless you steal all its antimatter .  Then its just a sitting duck.

Corvettes are actually a separate class of objects...you will note that abilities and buffs actually have to include "Corvette" underneath numObjects...

Now, what exactly flags them as corvettes and not frigates is beyond me...it could be part of the filename (which is what I'm hoping) or it could be the Statcounttype or Roletype....

Strangely, their entity files still start with the entity type "Frigate", so I'm a little confused how exactly this works...

Which is why I really wish every faction had an effective means of depleting titan antimatter.  As it stands Vasari have a great tool for doing so(kortul), TEC have a less-then-ideal tool(EMP has a pretty long cooldown since it's AoE), and Advent doesn't have squat since not even the damage/antimatter aspect of Detonate Antimatter can be used on titans.  Then again, in general I think the idea of depleting the AM of a titan so it can't do it's thing feels a bit lame to me in general(not much different from the CC effects titans are immune to)-but it strikes me as a bit of an issue that some factions are substantially more adept then others at shutting down titans in this fashion.

Then again the TLT is a special case I suppose, honestly I'm of the opinion that putting such a strong AoE damage ability(mostly due to the insane area it covers) on a titan who's main selling point is it's borderline invincibility(3 defensive skills and high base hull/shields) may have been a less then wise idea.

I had about 30 corvettes, and the Advent Rebel titan used caustic burst... boom. They all just disappeared.

i had 50 corvettes and someone used missle barrage, poof.

(along with basicly anything not a flack frig or heavy, but...)

nothing new here.

still, aoes are the counter to mass corvettes, units which, otherwise would basicly be the only unit youd ever need to build as long as you can play dodge the flack frigs.

So it's looking like corvettes are just for quick response and early game.

If I recall correctly, the Detonate Antimatter ability only doesn't disable abilities on the targeted titan, but does deplete antimatter and deal damage over time.

If you give an ability the capability to target frigates it will also target corvettes as corvettes are frigate entities according to the game. They are truly no more than glorified frigates.

This thread is rather dated and contains old/wrong information...

"Corvettes" are determined as such by their frigate role type...anything containing the corvette role type will be affected by abilities targetting corvettes...

True, but Lavo's point was that the frigate target object also includes corvettes.  Why there are abilities that contain both "Corvette" and "Frigate" as target objects, no one seems to know because it appears to be redundant.

It's already been discussed at great length, and as far as I'm conncerned the reasoning is purely string related...under the illusion that corvettes are "special" objects, including them in every target filter causes them to appear on the infocards for any ability that targets them...if you just used the frigate object, then the infocards would only say "frigates", not "frigates, corvettes"...since corvettes are frigates this may seem nonsensical or redundant, but since there are abilities that specifically target only corvettes, I can see players getting confused based off of infocard descriptions...
