Hi Sinners!

So one of the best way to get constant and detailed feedback regarding the game is to have a vibrant online community.  This is achieved by providing adequate clan support to the game's online base, ICO.

What I am requesting is a "Clans" tab on the left side of the ICO main menu.  Upon clicking this tab, a player would see a list of the clans in the Sins community, and their number of members.  Upon clicking an individual clan, there would be another window showing the full roster of the clan and their last active log in so as to gauge the activity of the clan.  It should also include a space for clan leaders to describe their clan, its goals, when it was founded, etc.  Other perks could include an "Apply to this clan" button, and a "Challenge to clan match".  The "Challenge to clan match" could only be done by a clan leader or a member with sufficient permission from another clan.  The challenged clan would receive a notification when they next log in.

Also, once you are in a clan, your clan should be able to put a logo up that would take the place of the default themes in the game.  Each clan member would have this logo as their theme (unless they choose otherwise, I guess).  Clan members should also be "tagged up" in that as soon as they are accepted into their clan, their clan tag gets put in front of their display name in brackets, for example:

Player name: Radioactive

Clan name: Dream Team

Clan Tag: [DT]

New display name: [DT]Radioactive

It's not perfect by any means but I wanted to put a few ideas on the table for discussion.  One of the biggest mistakes you guys (Stardock/Ironclad) made in Sins Vanilla/Trinity was that you let your online community be ravaged by bugs/minidumps/desyncs.  4 Years later and on the same engine, you have almost no excuse for failure.  If you want to have a steady supply of dump files, desynced saves, balance input, suggestions for expansions, among other benefits, you need to really allow for a thriving online scene that includes clan competition.

Heck, it will even help you sell more games down the road!

Sins desperately needs a overhaul in its lobby system more so than it needs clan support in my opinion. Lobby rooms should display the names of all the players in the lobby even when you are in a match setting up teams, having to press tab to cycle through to see who is in the lobby is painful as hell!

The lobby room should also be moved to the starting screen of sins right when you launch the game and it should continuously stay there as you cycle through the menus until you eventually start up a game and play (though I wouldn't be against it if you could also access it ingame too). Sins is a great game but the user interface is by far its worst feature, it severely needs an overhaul!

It would also be nice to see a feature to set the maximum number of teams allowed, this would make setting up matches so much easier.

I agree with Elude.  That's a good point.  The online multiplayer interface could definitely use some improvement in those areas.

I'm afraid there's no plans to update the UI for the multiplayer section.

Could you elaborate on what you meant by "DLC", Yarlen?

Are there plans for DLC for Rebellion? If so, of what sort?

i just don't understand.  you guys promised us a better multiplayer system in rebellion, and there has only been stagnation, and actually, it has got worse with no integrated friends tab.  i love this game so much but its online system is atrocious... hell i'd be willing to pay an extra 30 dollars for the game if it included full multiplayer support

I suppose selling same game 3 times (Sins, Trinity, Rebellion) explains a bit why there's no decent MP support. There, I said it.

And no, adding starbase does not make it new game.

I could care less about the UI looks. The buttons and UI are fine. We just want more features with that UI that is actually tangible for multiplayer play.

How about an api?  We could support a dev effort with donations.

I chatted with a dev once. He said if I bribed him with, i think it was $2000, he might be able to work in a ELO style rating system.

Should I start a kickstarter?

It's chicken and egg - they don't want to add more MP features/functionality/ladder play because they don't think there will be enough players to warrant it but without those basic features, you're hamstringing yourself from attracting and retaining a larger MP pool.

I know for  Ironclad's next title, Sins of a Dark Age, they are definitely going to be focusing more on MP as in this from their Q&A:

Will I be able to create a team with my friends and be automatically placed into a match?

Yes, we have a sophisticated matchmaking system and player/team ranking system.

So by not bothering with this for Rebellion at all, and ignoring the potential of using Steamworks and selling though Steam, they seem to really be indicating a lack of confidence in Rebellion having any kind of MP community.

So basically they just given up on us and moved on to newer things when they could make it a success here and now...

Also why even suggest a DLC for something that should be standard in a game.

I wouldn't mind starting a drive.  I will personally put in (at least) $100 dollars to this effort.  Before we start throwing money around, I would suggest compiling a list of what people would donate corresponding with their name to start a collection effort.

Then the tricky part is finding out how we can make sure Stardock takes the money and works on it as opposed to just take the money.  I think this could require some form of contract and that would be a pain.

who do we have to bribe, and how much?

I don't know why the developers insist in keeping online multiplayer so gimped out.  Its as if battle.net didn't exist, that they don't see the justification for the expenditure...

I am up to bribe this developer and the rest of their team to actually spend some time on this.

At the same time, it wouldn't reflect well on how they are percieved...

What has happened to Ironclad/Stardock that changed it from being a company with a vision?

An API (application programming interface) is a way for programs to exchange information in a very scripted (hopefully well documented) fashion.  So if you had a program like Blizzards Battle.net outside of Sins that program could pass Sins a request to start a 5 v 5 match and these are the id's that identify those players.  When the match was over this program could communicate the results giving you the basics of a ladder (when integrated with a database).

Then you would write programs that manipulated the database for the community.  (and there would be cake  )
