Well the new corvette ships are always moving, and any ships trying to shoot at them or fighter usually move a bit. But most ships have not changed.
That said, if you're just letting your ships sit still, you should either be A. hiding behind your defenses or B. using the Advent battle ball tactic. In almost any other situation you would do better giving your ships regular tactical orders to outmaneuver the enemy.
