Combat speed setting proposal

What if we had a rate of fire/healing speed setting in addition to the other ones like ship speed, income, research, etc. (maybe throw in AM regeneration as well)

It might make games go by a little faster if battles (especially early expansion) could be resolved sooner.  Im thinking that the current rate would be considered "normal".

I actually suggested part of this a couple years back, here, after playing a bit of Star Trek Armada 2. And I definitely a agree, would love to see more options for customizing things like damage rates, shield strengths, and whatever else.

I think the main downsides of increasing damage and repair rates are both the increase in RAM usage and the fact that it wil be a lot harder to track what is actually going on during a battle. Though if it would be implemented I am sure a lot of people would enjoy a feature like this.

I experimented with this a little bit in a death match minimod I made. Increased all weapons damage by 50%, and it certainly did a lot to make Sins feel more like other RTSs where units die fairly easily. However, it made capital ships a lot less important and increased the range advantage of the carrier caps, so I think it will only amplify the game imbalances.

i can see how bombers would be helped in that case and they certainly don't need any help.  a number of other tweaks would need to be made like ability effects and durations (especially for support caps) to maintain the balance, which is an issue now without other changes.

I kind of like the idea of changing the game pace, but I really fear that this would horribly unbalance the game.  Like previously stated, to many ships would become obsolete.  The game currently has enough balance issues, this could just make things worse.
