Bug: Iconus Guardian casts Shield Projection out of combat

I don't know that I noticed this problem before patch 0.8, but I see my Iconus Guardians casting Shield Projection all the time. It does not matter if they are out of combat (or even in a system with no enemies). They are always cruising on empty due to the antimatter drain. On the plus side, my weaving skills from playing a bard in Everquest is coming in handy to micro this.

Dunno if this helps, just set them to Autocast: Disabled to avoid this

I keep both abilities Disabled so I can trigger them when I feel it helps most

well... if there were enemy scout and trade ships being attacked in the well, then there would be cause to use the shield, so says the coding, which is why autocast abilities suck sometimes, which is why we much all be micro junkies and use them manually for best effect.

No, they use that ability when nothing is happening.

Yeah I took a quick look in the files, seems they turned off the 'OnlyinCombat' modifier in the ability file.

No clue why though :/

ive confirmed this behavior.  while microing is best, the ability did work fine on autocast before.

I've run into this bug as well, my gaurdians are casting their shields nonstop whether they are in combat or not.

I'm seeing this too. Setting autocast to disabled does work, but it means that Guardians are useless unless I'm constantly monitoring my fleets. For larger maps, this is really hard to do. It basically makes the AI much more powerful, because the AI can manage far more ships than a human.

the developers try to increase the micromanagement requirements of the advent fleet so that the vasari will always reign supreme in multiplayer.  This is naturally because the developers themselves are vasari infiltrators.
