I read an article (linked in the external link above) which says it will have a mode for faster game-play?

I would like to know how much faster?  Is it fast paced like StarCraft2?  I used to be a fan of the super long, all-day games.  But now I don't have time to wait so long and take up so many hours.  I would be interested in this game if it had a speedy mode.

Thanks

Well Diplomacy did add faster settings for things like resource income rate, build times etc. I don't think Rebellion increased those further, but there are new victory modes that can seriously speed up games if they are enabled. The flagship (a player loses if his flagship frigate he starts with is destroyed) and capital (a player is eliminated with their homeworld) makes it so you don't have to stomp out every planet to kill a player. There is also an occupation (take a heavily fortified planet in another star system and hold it long enough to win) and research victory that allow you to instantly win and defeat all players, but they are fairly difficult to achieve but can reduce the amount of time it takes to win very large games by a good margin.

Sadly from what I understand the multiplayer comunity isn't really using these modes yet, and against the AI games can still take a while (not the least because its getting a lot better). But if you're mainly interested in single player there will be a mod that will speed things up I think. ;)

So I would say its definitely not a very fast and click fest oriented game like starcraft II, but it can be a lot faster than Sins used to be depending on which settings you play on and your play style.

Simple, play the game at 8X speed. An 8x times faster game if you're out of time. Nowhere near as fun IMO, but if you want a fast game, 8x will give you it.

Thanks for the feedback GoaFan, I appreciate that.

Also @Joccaren, how fast is 8x compared to the speed setting called "Fastest" in the previous games?

one guess into how much faster 8x speed is.

hint. its double 4x speed.

the settings like income speed and ship speed are not game speed. you can put them all on faster, and 8x, or you could put them at slow and at 8x.

you cant use the speed settings in multiplayer. but there games end much faster due to humans being humans.

Dear god, tell me you aren't talking about the suicide mod where turrets do like a million damage...that thing was craaaazzzzyyy...

In all seriousness, you just streamline the game for that gamemode when we just want to pew pew each other and not actually strategize...

Hey, technically everything got buffed that much. It just had the odd effect of being much more visible on turrets due to their high base damage. Everything builds faster, everything dies faster, thats fair right? ;)

Yup, that's the plan. Might reduce everything versus capital and titan armor just to make it so they can still last a little while to use their abilities, but I think it could work well in Rebellion. Titans and Victory conditions will be perfect for it.

I was actually thinking in terms of more like reducing the amount of micro managing outside battles...condensing techs from 2 to 1 level, as an example...but it's your call...

Looking forward to the devlish fun that surely awaits us }:)
