Crash (runtime error) after 4 hour game

My friend and I played a game against four normal AIs in a 5 star map. The game lasted for about 4 hours and reached a point where dense enemy traffic could be seen throughout the systems. As we moved on to the next well, the game crashed with a runtime error. I found a saved game created just minutes before, but I don't know how useful it will be. I loaded it (in single player) to see if it would crash again, but no such luck.

runtime errors are known issues. Sure send in your save file, they think it's an nvidia driver issue though.

The best thing to do is try to remember what exactly you were doing, and what was going on just before the crash. Also if you were running on max settings, or default. The VC++ runtime errors are a random thing. It leaves no dump, or nothing on the debug log of dev.exe to give a clue what is causing it. The dev's are very aware of the problem, and yes they do think it is an nvidia issue. However they need help to try and isolate the cause. So as much info as you can post just before the error will help greatly.

We were moving two large fleets (his and mine) into another enemy controlled well. There was just so much activity that we could see with his Vasari research that showed all phase lane activity. Massive fleets moving between wells in our system, in other systems, and between systems. Neither one of us is running nvidia hardware. Beyond that, sadly, I don't have much more info to offer. I wish I did. I guess you could say, our four hour experience turned into a round of stress testing.
