I Pre-ordered sins of a solar empire rebellion a while back I have been using steam to play the game.
I think I may know why they cut me off.
I am a college student that works in I.T. I had sold my desktop last year, and have been using a laptop for much of my gaming including sins.
The issue is, the laptop I use to game is also my work laptop, part of my job is to troubleshoot issues with imaging and incompatable software with new operating systems, such as windows 8. I have my entire steam library and all data backed up to a 3TB external hard drive, so when its time to start up a new image I just copy over the files and log into steam. every time I launch sins from steam on a new image, the stardock activation would prompt me for my credentials and I would proceed to play the game.
nowhere the best part. I Just finally built a budget desktop with the ability to play the game at full speed, and now the stardock activation window returns an error "activation limit reached" steam does not see any issue with the game, and if I try to purchase the game again, I am prompted that I will have to gift the game as I already own it.
also, something else I found interesting, I had a friend purchase the game through steam last night, and he did not get the stardock activation prompt at all, and is happily playing.
Geographically I can see why they might have issues with my activations. I have activated the game while travelling many times. I have activated it in Boston Massachusetts, Miami florida, Orlando florida, and tampa florida.
I put in a support ticket, but I haven't heard anything back in 2 days and when I try to call the auto attendant tells me to open an email ticket.
I am not a pirate... I simply just want to play the game I purchased. especially on my new hardware.
I believe I am well within the limits of how I use my software as I only activate the game on my machines.
Kind of in a pickle here.
Thanks,
Casey
