How to stop game from tracking moving ships?

Every(?) time I change zoom with my mouse wheel while I'm in a planetary system, the game starts tracking the movement of some ship or other. I have to side-scroll a little to get it to stop. I don't want the view always moving on me. I can't figure out any setting to stop this behavior. How can I turn it off?

Thanks!! - Mike

Could it be that you're hitting the space key to "focus" on the ship? When I hit the space key after selecting and ordering a ship to move it does what you're talking about. Try it and see.

DOes this for me to.

Really really like to know if there is a way to disable the auto track feature on zooming in.

No that's not it Draser ... like Kreyson says, it just does it automatically.

I don't see anything likely in user.setting. Maybe it is this "ActionCameraZoomInstantWithContext" I see in uimappings.setting, but I don't know how to try messing with this. (These are in c:\docs and settings\[your name]\local settings\app data\ironclad games\sins\setting.)

Whenever you zoom in using the scroll wheel it automatically zooms in on a ship if its in in a certain radius around the cursor.

It gets bad when you have a solar system with major trade/refinery ships, or in fleet battles where you need to zoom in on a area to micro something.

Needs tweaking.

-edit- A hotkey to disable this should solve the problem. -edit-

There are already 2 hotkeys and an interface button for this.

The camera control button is between the Menu button and the Cinematic View button, and will toggle between Zoom to Cursor and Standard. Zoom to Cursor automatically locks on to objects beneath the cursor, Standard is a simple zoom to the middle of the screen.

The two hotkeys are M to toggle, or hold down Left Alt (I think) to temporarily toggle.

Zooming to the center of the screen would be a pain in the ass. I want a hotkey to disable the "lock onto" feature but still zoom to where my cursor is pointed like in supreme commander.

What he is refering to is something that has been flustering my two new noobs friends playing this too: When you zoom in, if your pointer ends up anywhere near a moving ship, the entire game/screen locks onto that ship, and starts scrolling the screen to follow it. Since you can't tell/see if where your zooming in will happen to have a ship right underneath it, you really can't avoid the auto-lock and scroll setting at this time.

Right, I don't know why they have "Zoom to Cursor" as a toggle; it's useless when disabled. I don't know what it means by "zooming to the focussed object" when it's disabled; it only seems to focus in on the exact center of the screen, regardless of whether there's even anything there.

We want "Zoom to Cursor". We just don't want the auto-tracking that comes with it.

Does anyone know of a hotkey, or a .setting change, that can stop it?

* edit * That's right, Paladin. Supreme Commander did it well... and had no auto-track. ("Grr! Stop moving while I'm trying to aim!!") You're sure there's no fix for it? Is there a way to put it in the suggestion box for a patch?

There's no way to change this, sorry.

Set

zoomToCursorLocksOnMovingEntities FALSE

in camera.setting if you dislike the auto-tracking behavior.

WOOOHOOOO!!!!! I hope this works. Ok, ok, newbie question here. I know nothing about mods or changing stuff, where do i change this? No clue where to find Camera.setting file.

Or can someone make a kiss simple mod for this for us binary language programing idiots such as myself.

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

It's just a "hidden" option so it's not a mod and won't make your game incompatible with other people playing on ICO.

There really should be an option to toggle this via hotkey ingame.
I find the auto-focus useful at times but also VERY annoying most of the time (especially when it auto-focuses some strike craft flying around and my orders get all screwed up because the camera moved when I tried to get my ships to focus fire).
Please include a hotkey for this in 1.03 !

I hope SD/IC are taking notes for the expansion and Sins 2.

I have to say this...

I love you.

This was one of the more annoying features of the game, when I am waging war on several fronts and i zoom in to issue quick orders.

Will try it tonight, if the wife doesnt attack me first.

*Edit*

Will the auto follow still work when i double click the unit?

Yes, you can still focus on units manually. It just won't focus on them when you ZTC nearby (it should still zoom towards them, but won't follow after you've stopped zooming)

kryo, that's got it! works perfectly. THANKS, BRO!

as far as I'm concerned, a simple note in the README for the next version concerning this camera.setting is enough. just so folks know where to go, if they don't like it. we have definitely seen a few people who adamantly don't like it - but we have not seen tons of people complaining. (maybe it's the folks who played SC and know things can be better? shrug) AFAIK, this is the first thread on it.

For the record, I LOVE the auto-lock-on feature, but it's always nice to have choices.

Rhedd, that's cool. I can especially see folks who want to "experience being there" liking it. In that way it's very cool.

But in the heat of battle, I do *not* want my cursor doing "extra moving" on me... not when my ship and/or the target ship are already moving, thank you very much.

So it's great that Ironclad included a camera.setting so we can turn it off, if we want. All we (who were concerned about it) had to do was ask, and kryo stepped right in.

All is good!

Back to the planetary bombardment! ;p

P.S. Actually it might be enough if you moderators were to pin one simple post at the top of the message board. All it has to do is say "How to turn off auto-tracking of ships", then explain what we're talking about, and how to get to the camera.setting. There's no need to copy all this thread. I can write it up if anybody wants.
