The Forbidden Worlds DLC Pack is Now Available for just $4.99

The war between the loyalists and the rebels within the TEC, Advent and Vasari continues within the depths of Trader Space.  Yet, this sector of the galaxy has far more worlds and history than any of the factions are aware. The need to survive forces each to expand into the unknown, discovering worlds of hazard, wealth, risk, and mystery. Most ominously, the Trader factions have been loathe to expand to these worlds due to the dark myths that surround them.

The DLC pack is brought to you by Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment and includes:

  • Four new planet types to colonize and exploit (Barren, Ferrous, Greenhouse, Oceanic), each created with beautiful high-res textures.
  • New Planet Specialization System:  Dedicate your worlds to either social or industrial output. Devoting your planet to social improvements will increase its population and culture, at the cost of trade income and ship production. Choosing an industrial path will limit your growth and culture, but make your planet a trading and ship building powerhouse.
  • 15 new research subjects allow the races to conquer and expand onto the forbidden worlds.
  • Discover 40 new planet bonuses during your exploration of the galaxy, unlocking the dark past of the Sins’ universe.
  • Unlock five new Steam Achievements and display your mastery of forbidden space!

Purchase the DLC for only $4.99:
Direct

Also available on:
Steam , GameStop , GamersGate, and GameFly

Oceanic planet population increase, 10-30-280??(it should be 80 i guess, someone made a spelling mistake)-140-250

so upgrading the planet pop further than the 2nd upgrade is a loss in practice

there is a problem with the socialization too..

There is a problem, on socialization level 5 and after the second pop upgrade it tells me the population is 1025 or 1055 i cant remember corrrectly, but actually it is 655... after upgrading all population upgrades for the ocean, it reads 1000 population, though the max population on the planet is 625... Something is not right..

The planetary bonus Virtual Reality Park, in the description says it increases allegiance, but it is not written anywhere by what amount (5%), only the credit is shown.

is it me or is this like distant stars or 7 deadly sins, which was FREE btw, now being dressed up into PAID DLC?

hmmm....

Well Stardock has never steered me wrong before, and 5 bucks is pretty good for a DLC, So i'm definitely checking it out.  I just am wondering if this is some kind of gearing up for something to come......

mods are always wrong somewhere (for me), excess amount of resources from planets (maelstrom), or strange look (DS) (and yes, it was enough for me to not play DS), or impossible to get (7DS...), it is better to have it official I think, though this DLC feels like it is a beta, like noone played a full game testing the new things... Even the social specialization has a huge error, last level is not showing the real values of what it is really doing, or some planetary bonuses not showing everything (Virtual Reality Park only shows the 1 credit increase, the 5% allegiance increase is only written in the description and it can be seen on the max allegiance, but with numbers it is written nowhere..)

New planet types were added...what I mean by this is that you actually have new hardcoded content: the new planets have their own unique colonization and population tech modifiers, something that could NOT be done previously with a mod...

You also have the planet specialization system, which is again something you could not have done with a mod...

Is it worth $5?  Only you can decide...my MP mind tells me it's a waste, but my modder mind tells me it is well worth the money...I imagine many mods with new planets will love the new things SD added...I for one think SD did a nice job on this, and would argue it's a little above what most $5 DLCs tend to get you....

No mod could do exactly what Stardock has done with this. They've added a lot of new modifiers and things under the hood, and the planet specialization thing is something totally new. Yeah the old Sins plus mod had oceanic planets, but they basically behaved as Ice or Terran planets. The oceanic planet in this DLC is totally independent.

It would have been nice to have the DLC function properly on release though. I'm thinking I'll wait till these simple bugs are worked out before getting it.

So is the main gameplay change now, that you can get your planet populations into thousands (in case of terran and oceanic planets at least), thus gaining some nice tax income rate, impossible to get before? Allowing you not to go for trade ASAP, everytime you get a chance? What was the max population on terrans you could have before?

BTW, the other non-social planet upgrade path, involving trade and ship-production - forgot the name. Does the increased ship construction rate influence the cooldown of the Returning Armada/Dark Fleet Beacon techs for the Vasari phase stabilisers, or its only about ships built from shipyards?

99% certain only ships from shipyards. None of the other build time modifiers affect returning Armada, that's an ability timer.

TEC, 364, and it actually never gets to 1000, it is a mistake, not ciorrectly written at the specialization thing.. actually it is like 700 or something.

Does it mention anything about cooldowns? No, it only reduces ship build time from factories (and starbases i guess)

correct me if im wrong
