Is this a bug, feature, or just coincidence?

I've been playing on-and-off for the entire beta 4 series, and I'm noticing something odd that keeps on happening.

Basically, it seems that I'm having a lot harder time finding "good" planets (class 17+). It's not that they're particularly _rare_ in the galaxy, its that all I ever see seeded around my starting location are class 14, 15, and maybe 1 or 2 16s.

I'm playing on "common" habitable planets in a medium galaxy.

In at least 2 recent games, I've had more then 12 colonies in my initial expansion rush. Here's the count for one game: 2 class 14 (I was deperate to expand at the start), 7 class 15s, 2 class 16s, and 1 class 17 (which was Earth itself).

Is this just a string of conicidences, or has the galaxy construction code changed?

I should add that I tend to find more than a few 17+s around...they're just all other people's planets, often way across the galaxy, right adjacent to an enemy homeworld (and thus taken) or somewhere else they're hard to get at.

I just found a nice, ripe class 26 waiting for me 6 sectors away from Earth! :d YMMV

jpub,

The planet classes have definitely been tweaked over the course of the betas. In beta 4 there is a definitely an increase number of planets in the class 15-16 range and a decrease in the number of planets with a higher starting class.

Correct. 15 and 16 are much more common now. 16 on up less common.

It has been rare that I've gotten one class 26 planet in the game...usually belongs to someone else and I have to take it from them. :) First game on 4Z and I've got 3 of 'em! Nice to have class 31 planets (after enhancement). Not right together mind you, but none of them were taken when I finally got to them.
This is on Abundant setting, medium galaxy.
